Question building a bolt-action

Hi, I'm trying to build a bolt-action .308, and my budget is $2,5000. My goal is a rifle that is capable of hitting a torso-sezed target at 1,000 yards with relative ease, whether I can shoot that far is another question, but when the day comes when I can I want a rifle that can take me out to that distance.

Basically, the parts i'm close to dead-set on having for my build are 1. a Krieger, bartlein, lilja etc. quality barrel, 2. a Mcmillan A5 stock, and 3. a jewel, timney, etc. quality trigger. So basically my question is what is the cheapest way to build a rifle that has these parts? I'm open to suggestions as well.

Would it be cheapest to just buy a remington 700 sps, then replace the stock, barrel, and trigger with what I wanted. If I did that would the action have to be trued or blueprinted?

Also, an action have to be trued or blueprinted when the barrel is changed?

Hang around the for sale section long enough and you will find some great deals on all parts you listed. Smiths, plenty of great smiths on here to choose from, so take your time talk to them and you will figure it out. I'm sure more experienced shooters will chime in soon. So just read and absorb as much as you can while gathering all your necessary parts.

cheapest way ive found is to get a used piece of shit gun with the action you want here, or GB or local pawn or gun shops, sell off the parts to recoup a few dollars. attain your action, bottom metal, stock, scope base and any other custom part(bolt knob) and ship those loose parts to a good builder, let them assemble and barrel it

Stiller Tac 30 - $850ish
Bartlein Barrel from Robert Whitley - $330
Jewell Trigger - $210 (Greatoutdoors)
A-5 - 585$ from Thrid Gen
Rail - 50$ Stiller

Gunsmith 200$ Stiller
Bedding - 200$ I guess maybe less

I have a very similar gun but with mini chassis and it shoots amazing.

Yes after removing a barrel from a remington you would need to true it up before adding a fine custom barrel.

Total - 2425$

If you can't perform the machine work yourself, or you don't have a close bud who's a machinist, then you are going to come out just about even if considering either a trued blueprinted R700 action versus a Stiller or other custom action. The amount of machine work involved on the R700 will quickly chew up the cost savings that you think you're getting by going with the cheaper action. I think the cheapest way to obtained a action is to go buy a new gun and sell off the parts. At least the parts you are selling you can sell as new take offs.

The last donor rifle I bought for the action was a SPS tactical. I think I ended up with $200.00 in the action after selling all the pasrts off the rifle and the rebate the offered at the time.
