Ok my friends,

I have not taken it to the the range yet but I purchased a Bushnell 25x-125x-88MM spotting scope from Optics Planet for a measly $150. Not the best spotting scope but should easily be able to spot rounds well past 800 yards with 125x max power.

Question - when up close the aperature that adjusts the magnification becomes much smaller. Is this what I can expect at the range? It might not matter since the distance is so much further - is this normal?

For a $150 spotting scope its not bad...the tripod could use some work but it should work for my uses since my USO SN-3 only dials to from 1.8x-10x max. Should make it easy to see hits (and misses). Hopefully the glass is good enough to catch trace.

I wouldn't expect much clarity or use with that scope over 60x.....I've got a really nice Bushnell spotting scope that ranges from 15-60X.... I'd say about 90% of the time I never use more than 24X or 30X and that's out to 1000 yards.

I find that trying to go much higher than 30X just really magnifies every tiny vibration to where it's impossible to see any clearer than the lower levels. Not too mention the higher magnification really shows the heat from the ground to where the picture distorts too much.

Hope yours turns out better.

Re: Question - Bushnell 25-125-88 spot scope

We had a 100 MM spotting scope (team type) when I was shooting for the guard. It came with several eye pieces and people kept sticking in the higher power pieces. The 20-25 worked the best for shooting to 1000 yards. You can't see bullet holes at that distance anyway, and the higher power washed out the target by magnifying the mirage. I tossed the heavier eye pieces.

With the 20-25 power you can see 22 & 30 holes at 300.

I've had a couple Bushnells over the years and in the same power range they worked pretty good for seeing holes at 200-300. Good for mirage also.

(I like to use my first two shots in rapid fire as additional sighters so I have to have a scope that will see bullet holes at 200 & 300 yards)
