OP mentioned moving here for several years with his firearms. He'd bring bolt guns and revolvers.

Did not mention his primary residence remaining out of state, and that he wishes to remain able to shoot.

Its possible he reloads, and can import components but if he's taking up residency there are restrictions.

Not something I'd call 100% false.

Either way, saying bringing in ammo into California is a "no no" is incorrect. Residents of CA can bring ammo in from out of state, but at very restricted quantities, which I articulated. Non-residents are not bound by that restriction.

50 fucking rounds? The op specifically states he'd like to shoot here over the next few years, if/when he moves here. (depends on health of a family member).

He can bring in all the ammo he wants as long as he's not a resident.. He won't be a resident the very second he crosses the border with the moving truck. You're not a resident until you formally notify the appropriate government agencies, like the DMV when you get your new driver's license.

I know, reading words then applying then to real life is difficult sometimes.

One works 10 24 hour shifts usually consecutively. Its his primary job. But he flies home (pilots his personal aircraft) and the state has tried, but can't touch him. HE had to prove this to the state.

I'm talking about the OP's situation specifically and how the rules apply should he move to CA. Not your friends trying to circumvent the rules and claiming "Oh, I didn't know." That's not an excuse.

I got the hell out of CA because of exactly all of the above, including crap your friends dealt with.

That is non responsive to my point. If he is here more than 9 months he will have to PROVE he's a non resident. The burden isn't on the state. And the cops are not sharp enough to make a distinction anyway. I've had a friend pulled over and searched.for ammo because he took a side route into the state. All he had were cpr manikans.

So hayseed solutions like just don't become a resident don't work.

It seems what he is saying is that tomorrow, as a non resident, he can bring in a billion rounds. None months from now, as a resident, he cannot, but that doesn't change his ability to do so tomorrow, so he should do it before he has officially taken up residence.

Whats also obvious is the op wants to shoot and may be in the state for several years. He wanted an overview and the fact is it will be difficult to aquire ammo, particularly specific ammo that isn't on the shelves in most gun stores.

And then he talks about circumventing rules.

(a) Commencing July 1, 2019, a resident of this state shall not bring or transport into this state any ammunition that he or she purchased from outside of this state unless he or she first has that ammunition delivered to an ammunition vendor in this state for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 30366.
(b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any of the following bringing or transporting into this state any ammunition:

(13) A person that at the time he or she acquired the ammunition was not a resident of this state.
