Suppressors Question for TBAC Ultra 5 Owners

Guys,

Have an .30cal Ultra 5 being transferred from Texas to a dealer here in Indiana since they appear to be backordered till the end of time at Silencer Shop.

Since the only dealer who would accept the transfer is 3+ hours away I’m trying to do my paperwork myself so when I get to the dealer to pay the transfer fee I can hand them the already completed paperwork, photos, etc and not have to make a second trip until the paperwork clears.

Luckily the transferring dealer did email me the serial number.

Now for my questions....

If you have an Ultra 5, how exactly is the model and caliber listed on your Form 4?

Does your serial number include an alpha character? The one they provided is listed as Axxxxx where the x’s represent digits. (Just wanting to make sure the A is actually part of the serial number and not an error)

Just wanting to make sure I get everything right so any insight is appreciated.

Any decent dealer should help you fill out the paperwork. Mine actually has everything filled out when I get there and all I do is sign. BTW, it’s a good idea to send everything off yourself. I always send USPS priority with tracking to confirm that it was received.

The new dealer reluctantly agreed to accept the transfer. Said he’d call me and then I can come in to pay my transfer fee and initial storage fee and then he’d start the paperwork. I’m trying to avoid having to make multiple 6hr round trips.

I’ve got my prints and photos ready. I also have the info from his FFL and SOT he had to provide for the transfer. I just need to figure out the specifics on the suppressor and I can have everything ready for him to just sign and be done with it.

That’s EXACTLY my plan. I just have to confirm how these are registered description-wise since you have to fill all of that out manually.

I looked at my stamps. I don’t have an Ultra 5 but I do have an Ultra 7 in 6.5. Everything looks good but my other 30 cal cans have 300 as caliber on the Form 4.
So maybe write out 300 instead of .30 cal.

Source: My stamps came from Capitol Armory and they used 300.

With what Zak said last night, wait til the can clears the form3 and shows up at the dealer and then go to the dealer to reconfirm everything and pay your fees.

Pay the few extra bucks to have tracking and signature required.

Just give Amanda a call tomorrow morning and she'll get you squared away. Remember you can't file the Form 4 until your dealer has the can in his possession on Form 3.

I realize the Form 4 can’t be submitted until the Form 3 clears. The Form 4 requires the FFL/SOTs signature anyway. I’m just trying to avoid having to go there, pay my fees, go home, go back to get paperwork, go home and then go back again. Each trip is right at 3hrs one way.

I figured if I can have everything filled out and ready to go (minus signatures) I can pay, get the forms completed in the same visit and then only have to go back when it’s finally approved.

Amanda is TBAC. Capitol Armory can send the completed form 4 with the silencer, call them and ask. We also offer that service: all you and your dealer need to do is sign. Me, Capitol and a few others can submit the form 4 on your dealer’s behalf if they agree.

My usual FFL isn't a bad guy and that's the way it worked for all of my other suppressors. For some reason they won't except an inbound Class III transfer from anyone except Silencer Shop. I know the owner pretty well and he said - without going into specifics - that 'I'm not allowed... it's complicated'. Which leads me to believe there's some sort of contractual agreement getting in the way.

The folks handling this transfer have been awesome.... though the drive REALLY sucks. Which is why I figured if I go in with everything together it'll save everyone (them work and me driving).

Yeah... it’s $75 per six months. They only charge that if it’s a transfer and not something they sold which I can understand. I’m fine with the costs.... the drive the killer.

I got all my forms put together this evening with photos, prints, etc. Still have to print the priority mail labels but I’ll do that when tracking shows it arrived from Texas.

With any luck the Form 3 should clear tomorrow or Wednesday which will get it here in Indiana Friday or Monday. I can then take the day off, head over paperwork in hand, pay my fees and start the process and hopefully not have to go back until next Christmas.

What really sucks is my normal Class III is like 30 miles from my house but he can’t help me with this one.

It sounds like Zak squared you away (they're always on here so it's another good reason to go with TBAC, CS is stellar). But what you have listed is fine for your form. You don't have to overthink it too much. The hole is technically larger than .30 but it's made for .30 projectiles so it's fine. The SN always includes everything after the "SN:" or whatever. Model is spot on and I put 5" down for length on the one I submitted. In fact, I filled it out just like you did but with my SN.

It's good you asked though, I've had one sent back for correction (didn't slow it down any) where they thought "LMT" or the "SN" or something was part of the SN. It wasn't. So only put what comes after the "SN" or "#" or whatever.

As for filling out forms, yeah, they should help you but I've always filled out my own so I could be sure there weren't any mistakes that could kick it back. I've filled out a lot though, all I need is the dealer's info to complete it. I'd mail it back to him to submit and we'd be on the way, only had to stop by his shop to pick it up. He handled all the Form 3's between dealers though.

I can somewhat understand the 'storage fee'. I have 2 cans at ffl dealers and since it is the end of the year they have to show them in inventory for state taxes as well as insurance on all items in the store. But you would be more than happy to pay a storage fee and have a can replaced because of theft than have him call and say your can was stolen sorry!. i talked at length with one of them and could not beleive that. Since they are paid for. but in this state and county if it is still in retail shop possession it is considered inventory and property tax has to be paid. So they have to claim the retail price of the can and pay tax on it. More than likely it is the same in other states too. Stan

PS my ffl holder does not charge me a storage fee but i did offer to pay the tax on my can since it was a transfer in and not bought thru him.

very interested in one of these for a hunting build. I love my cb7 and think an ultra 7 would work too but may look at this for dedicated hunting bolt gun since I've already got a 7" suppressor and 9"
