In perusing the site, I'm seeing members here and there getting banned. The most recent I saw had over 10,000 posts so I would assume he wasn't new here.
I've read the rules a few times now in an attempt to try and tread lightly. Is there anyplace to see why someone was banned, no names required, so I don't accidentally or unknowingly commit the same offense?
I am very appreciative of all the info I am getting here.
Thanks!!

Having been here a short time, one thing seems to jump out to me regarding being banned ... you are usually warned before any discipline is metered out. If you are banned without warning, then you have probably posted something in direct conflict with forum rules which usually means you/they didn't really read the rules or did read them and posted anyway.
Others can chime in if I'm incorrect.

If you read the rules you’ll prevent the ban entirely...

Most either don’t or forget them

Also don’t be a Dildo. Being a dildo will get you a vacation. That’s not in the rules. So your welcome

Also, if you are going to go out go out in style!!! Let us enjoy the glory!!
This isctruly a site of basics. If you read threads you will see that alot is tolerated. But!!! If you cross a line there are 2 paths. Path 1, my favorite. The mods let us have our fun!
Path 2, instant shutdown for however long.

After path 1 most never come back
After path 2 some come back with a chip amd instead of learning declare how they are masters of the universe... which can lead to path 1...

The safe way to not get banned:
Don't talk politics (Particularly do not start new threads related to, derail an existing thread to politics, or participate in said derailment)
Don't talk religion
Don't get into pissing contests
Don't talk trash about an item someone is selling on the PX (I'd guess this happens to a lot of people as of late, but it'd just be a guess)
Don't be an a-hole

And obviously follow the rules pinned to the top of this page. The rules change, so keep up with them. Last update was the 25th of last month -- only thing I see that changed is language around where political talk could be. (Which now says designated areas -- basically the porta-john, maybe somewhere else, was told there's 3 threads for it. Best to just not start any political topics, in my opinion)

I'm not a mod, the owner, or affiliated with SH in any way -- that's just my personal approach. Not saying I always abide by it, but it's what I try to do. Also, banned sounds permanent but not all bans are permanent. Whoever you are referencing that got banned may be back in X days.

The most certain way to become un-bannable is to craft some long and detailed posts here in the Pit.
Topics that assure longevity are awards and commendations you have may or may not have gotten (including ROTC), fuck hats, ghillie suits, how much you bench, velcro sneakers you may own and voicing any distaste for law enforcement seems to help.

Almost all of the good ones are linked in the Legendary Thread Reference. New ones added as they come up.

As founder, and past president, of the Sniper's Hide Banned for a Year Club, Ill just say this. Dont piss off Lowlight.;)

DThomas and MarinePMI are pretty easy going but if you piss off the boss youre fucked.🙃

I havent had a vacation for at least a couple years now, I must be slipping. 😂

i think it really depends on the extent of the transgression, and if they were warned.
the mods here seem pretty fair to me. sometimes it is what we don't see that might be the worst.

I am also still relatively new. I haven't read the sum total of forum rules but that said I follow my own rules which probably go beyond the forum rules anyway.

1. You can disagree with someone without being a jerk or calling names. I try to 'talk' to other forum members as if they were sitting across the table from me. This philosophy so far has kept me out of trouble. That said sometimes 'old' members will jump all over new members or do or say things that are not acceptable and that's not really a healthy thing. My perception of that is those old members get a little bit too comfortable when they start thinking this house is their house so they start to do as they please...which often doesn't work out very well.

2. This is a gun forum and a shooting forum. For the most part stay on topic and you will be fine provided you don't cop an attitude.

3. Avoid the Bear Pit 96.8% of the time.

most importantly, don't piss Frank off, his house his rules
be nice and play fair
have fun but not too much
help out lost souls
make sure you're thick skinned
take it on the chin when you're wrong
get rid of chips that develop
give back as good as you get with some of the funnier trolls here :ROFLMAO:

So, here's some wisdom. Mods are like dogs. They need YOU to train THEM. Especially the ones who fancy themselves as some kind of hardass. There's something about being a mod on a gun forum that turns them into the most rancid of vagina's in male form. You need only smell Tucker. It's sad how many fawn over them when in reality they need a firm reprimand in the same way they feel we do. Or at least me. In fact, I was doing great training Tucker by telling him to eat shit and die on a regular basis (about once every month if I recall) but then the asshole went got himself banned. Apparently because of his boi-fetish over Maser which he shared with Veer (deceased). I dunno. I was banned when it all went down so I never got to tell him to eat shit and die one last time.

The irony.

So. Get quick with the task and tell your local gun forum mod to eat shit and die. In (a lot of) time, they'll thank you for it.

***UPDATE***

I lied, the mods are actually training me on how to be a forum member. Im away on a retreat training now. See you in 2 weeks

How about a thread from SH Gods that give brief synopsis of the actions of those banned individuals that created their situation; with no additional comments from the grandstands unless members had direct interactions with admonished individual. Might be good for a laugh now and then.

1. Stay out of the Pit.
2. Don’t fuck with Lowlight.
3. If you can’t follow #1, keep your booger hook off the report button. Grow thick skin or die.
4. If you can’t follow #2, you may as well ban yourself now.
5. If you can’t follow #3, you may as well ban yourself now.
