terrebonne, or
i was in the local gun store the other day and was looking through there bullets. i was looking at the .224 rounds like always but i saw one that said .223" i was wondering if anyone knew what caliber that was for as from what i understood .224 was for the rem 223 ar 15s and such as well as 22 250.

I was pretty sure that 22LR is .222, 22mag is .223 and centerfire 22's were 224, except for the noted 22 Hornets from ages ago.

There's a difference in LR and Mag rimfire bores, I'm sure of that. Part of the reason that the early Ruger Single Six convertibles had lousy accuracy reputations for shooting LR ammo in them.

Current .22 Mag groove diameter is .224', same as .22 centerfire. That's the reason that .22/22 Mag interchangeable revolvers shoot better with one cartridge or the other, depending on their groove diameter.

Speer Reloading Manual (#11) indicated that Pre-WWII .22 Hornets were .223, post war .224.

Hodgdon Reloading Manual (#26)indicates that .218 Bee is also .223. While .222 introduced in 1950 was .224.

Good luck

And one more for the mix is the .22 Savage Hi-Power, it is .227". Hornady still made these the last time I bought some about 7 or 8 years ago.

Is that the same as a 22 Savage? I had an option to buy a very nice turkey gun with the rifle barrel chambered in 22 Savage. I opted out of it because brass and bullets were damn near impossible to find.

Never saw a case for it, I was told it's akin to a 30-30 necked to 22.
