I need to turn down the necks on some 308 Lapua brass that I necked down to 7-08. I am looking for an inexpensive method to do this. Anybody have any sugestions, also does inside or outside neck turning work better? Just too many options and wanted to ask before I spent the money on stuff I dont need.

Thanks

Re: Questions about neck turning

why do you have to turn the brass ? did you get a dounut or something ? or is your chamber really tight ? how tight is it ?Some guys have said they never reamer case mouths , i would probably turn the outside instead , i hear you should also fire form your cases befor neck turning

Re: Questions about neck turning

I think neck turning is always a good idea on fireformed of even new brass (I do after one shot). I have mine set to just skim one thousandth but you may need two - three thousands?. I believe it help with concentricity. Decent hand trimmers are not expensive and can be had at sinclair or midway I think they are all about the same quality.....very simple designs?
If you shoot a lot or do a lot of forming brass and can swing it I reccommed the Gracey power trimmer, They are very accurate and fast, but cost a few hunderd bucks. I do not know current price because mine is 7 or 8 years old but I can tell you it works as good today as when I bought it. If you have a custom caliber they may need to make you a shell holder though because they index off the shoulder?

Re: Questions about neck turning

I use a Forester hand held with Lee locking shell holders (used in their hand held case length trimming set up). The shellhoder has a chuckable shaft that I use with a small handheld drill. makes pretty fast work of neck turning.

This shellholder....won't need the shaft

This lock stud...won't need the cutter

Neck turner of your choice...I use this

Be sure to buy the correct shaft separately for your round
