I just acquired an old style M110 in .243 that is in desperate need of a re-barrel. How hard is it to acquire a new barrel and stock for an older model Savage? My understanding is that the newer style M110 parts are not compatible with the older style. Any thoughts?

If this has action screws spaced at ~5.062", then you have a few off-the-rack stock options from Choate and Bell & Carlson, as well as the usual custom options (Manners, McMillian, Stockade, XLR). Barrels should interchange from any action length without an issue, as will the bolt head (needed if you intend to switch to a caliber that requires a different bolt face). EGW has you covered on long-action one-piece scope mounts.

Just be sure that you specify the older thread/barrel size. There is a difference. At least in my case. (Don't ask)

If it is a long action, it will work in any long action stock. They have never changed the screw positions on the long actions.
There is no "old" thread size. There is small and large shank. Large shanks came on the RUM, WSM, and the Target actions. Everything else is small shank. Small shank is 1.055" diameter. Large shank is 1.200" diameter. You can measure immediately in front of the barrel nut.
Your action probably is a long action that has a short action mag opening. Not a big deal just a limitation of the action. I built my 338 Edge on a similar action. It is left hand, long action, short mag opening, small shank.

You will need an action vise, Savage nut wrench, headspace gauges..get a new recoil lug while your at it.
The stock SHOULD be a non-issue if it has the 5.062in spacing (a custon stock from Kevin Rayhill at Stockade Guns will run less than $200 if you get the "money-saver" option...but expect to wait 4-5 months before it comes in after your order (and Pay).
Check out savageshooters.com and you will get all the info you need. A new barrel can be bought there from Northlander on the cheap, and the new Criterion (spelling?) barrels seem to be the big hit right now for a cheap cost.

The BC Duramaxx is a decent off-the-shelf stock for long-action Savages if you don't mind an M40-style; for $100 the price is right and will get you going if you don't want to wait for a custom-order stock.
Don't "need" an action vise to swap barrels on a Savage - a bench vise and two notched hardwood blocks with pitcher's resin (or brown sugar) to hold the barrel work just fine as a lower cost substitute.
Gun Shack has killer deals right now on prefit 26" SS varmint contour ER Shaw .224 9 twist or 6mm 8 twist barrels in the chambering of your choice...$158. Probably won't be competition quality or quite as good as a $250 Criterion from Jim Briggs but for the money, probably not a bad way to go if you're interested in those calibers.
