Forgive my ignorance...but I haven't been reloading for about the last 5yrs and I'm dusting off trying to start again.

Hopefully this is a quick question for someone who doesn't mind helping me out.

Long story short I'm trying to work up a 300 AAC Blackout load, but Quickload has two cartridges to choose from:

1. '.300 AAC Blackout'
2. '.300 AAC Blackout (SAAMI)'

So far as I can tell from looking quickly over the cartridge diagram, all the specs appear the same...but it definitely has a noticeable impact on the output of the program.

Any ideas?

The .300 AAC Blackout was born as a wildcat called the .300 Whisper. Its name and the pMax changed as it evolved into a SAAMI-spec commercial cartridge, but shooters still tend to use the one term -- blackout -- even when referring to any one of the wildcat phases. JD Jones's recommended pMax for the original .300 Whisper was 50,763 (which is all my QL shows, owing to it not having been updated in almost four years). SAAMI's pMax spec for the .300 AAC Blackout is 55k. So in your case, if #1 shows 50,763 and #2 shows 55,000, that's what's going on.

The controlling factor is not the QuickLoad database but the roll mark on your barrel. And I should note that QL is an essential component of my reloading kit, but when it comes to pMax, I still take the powder manufacturer's word over Hartmut Brömel's.
