R700 aac-sd in mdt lss chassis, just back from the shop.

I made this build to have a tactical looking and lightweight hunting/tactical application rifle. I have duracoat coming the beginning of next week to coat the chassis and associated accessories. Tell me what you think.

My light sniper/hunter build. Remington 700 AAC-SD in .308 Winchester, MDT LSS chassis, magpul CTR AR-15 butt stock with 3/4" cheek riser, DPMS ar-15 carbine buffer tube and castle nut, Hogue pistol grip, surefire 7.62 muzzle break designed for QD SOCOM silencer, aluminum EGW rings and 20 MOA railed scope base, vortex viper HD 6.5-20x50mm scope with mildot reticle. The bolt fluting, barrel fluting, bolt knob installation, bolt handle lightening, and patriot brown cerakote was all done by Karl Feldkamp out of Kampfeld custom in Clinton, Michigan.

I had to mess around with the digital luggage scale I have but it came out to about 8.5lbs. I might be putting a magpul polymer rail on the bottom with an angeld fore-grip for offhand shooting so it'll be closer to 8.8lbs but overall under 9lbs is pretty impressive. If I went with a slimmer contour/shorter barrel and a lighter scope I probably could have taken off another pound or more but I'm satisfied. I'd rather have a rigid 20" heavy barrel (fluted of course) and that extra magnification for longer range shots from the bench. When I shoot this barrel out I'll probably install an 18" proof carbon fiber wrapped barrel. We'll see, the rifle needs to be duracoated and shot still so i'll post a follow-up here. I'm excited about this, it's my first truly dedicated light hunter build.

MDT is advertising that the savage version of the LSS chassis will be released sometime in September. I'm not sure whether that means it is already out (as it may be an old advertisement) or they mean next September. Would have to email/call them to find out.

Thanks. My friend invited me hunting this year, but I wasn't prepared for it. No blaze orange, no licenses, etc. That, and my only rifle options are my KMW-built Rem700 in an AICS (about 17 lbs without suppressor and magazine), M1 Garand or 1903A3 Springfield. The 30-06 guns are all iron sights, and I haven't even shot them since inheriting them from my dad 3 years ago.

So I started thinking about a "light" hunter/tactical rifle, and my friend was thinking the Ruger GSR would be an option. I like it, but then I saw the 16.5" Rem700 308 and thought it might make a light, handy package in an MTD or McCree chassis. That it takes the same mags as my AICS is a bonus. Sure, I'll wind up spending nearly double what the Ruger GSR costs, but I really like vertical pistol grips on all my rifles.

For a scope, I"m leaning towards the Burris MTAC 1-6 with 762 ballistic reticle. Not planning any shots beyond 300 to 400 yards, so that magnification should be good for that. Seems decent enough, especially for the price, and keeps the weight down.

Something I just thought about, the MDT website ( MDT - Modular Driven Technologies ) is the only place I've been able to find with AI mags in stock. So if you get the chassis you can very likely pick up mags there too. Or if anyone needs them for another rifle there's that too. From what I see they have 308, 300wm, and 338lm mags in stock.

If you have a buffing wheel or a dremel, take it to those slots in the castle nut. Just enough to take the sharp corners off. You will lose skin there in the field

i have been looking at this chassis for my aac-sd also...did u purchase from MDTs website or another dealer? MDT says they are backordered and Im not a fan of waiting lol
