R700 LTR muzzle brake?

I have a r700 ltr and I was wondering if a muzzle break would be a good addition to the rifle. I usually shoot match grade ammo (can't remember the grain off the top of my head). The gun has a decent kick so any suggestions are welcome. The rifle is fully stock except for the trigger adjustments I did to lighten it up.

Sure, why not. Makes it louder. People next to you may not like it. Will help get/keep you on target after the shot. I have a Badger FTE on my LTR. Its big and ugly but it works. It came with it so I didn't have a choice but, if I were buying a new brake, I'd buy another RAD brake (use one on my 7mm) from R&D Precision. It is smaller, looks better, works just as well, and is cheaper.

Re: R700 LTR muzzle break?

I have them on all my guns. 220 Swift to 300WM. Keeps the muzzle down after the shot so you can watch the impact, lessens the kick. It doesn't make them louder, but it does redirect the sound and airwaves coming from the gun, so depending on where you stand in relation to the muzzle, it can be louder. But if you worry about noise, you're in the wrong sport. Get the brake, you'll be glad you did.

Thing to consider:
Can't shoot a rifle with a brake in NRA sponsored F-class. In field matches like ASC they make people with brakes shoot to one side. Not only is the extra noise annoying, but having grass, dirt, leaves and other shit blown all over you when you are next to one going off. Also, shooting near or off of a vehicle will break tail lights, etc.

Good luck

I put an OPS-INC brake on my LTR
Lets me spot for myself...usually not around others to bother.

Got to watch the bushes around you .... they will rustle!!!..if that's your thing.

Re: R700 LTR muzzle break?

Brakes are not limited to ones that make live miserable for fellow shooters. You have brakes that send blast forward now. There is less noise directed at the shooter, and shooters next to you. Its sent downrange. Lots of options in 223 but some 308 ones also. You also have brakes that are effective, but keep the noise and side blast roughly the same. You have the VAIS brakes that have been out for years. The increasingly popular Battlecomps. I have a battlecomp but also have a Troy Claymore, one of the forward blasting ones, that I cut side slits in that makes it function like a Battlecomp. You can have recoil reduction, no blast down to kick up dirt, flash suppression, and end up without a big noticable change in noise and side blast.

Re: R700 LTR muzzle break?

I am pretty much looking for something that will cut down the kick and I would rather now have a break that kicks dust up at myself or other around me. I sometimes shoot from the prone position and would rather avoid getting sand in my rifle.

Re: R700 LTR muzzle break?

I don't have break on my .308 because it isn't allowed, but I do have a Surefire on my .223. When I take it to the range, they try to put me away from everyone else. If you shoot from a covered position, you're going to give yourself a headache.

On the plus side, the rifle does not move when it goes off. I mean that literally. It works as it's supposed to. I just couldn't imagine having a muzzle break on my .308 shooting my 155gr load moving at 2900 fps.

The RAD brake vents to the sides and at a slight upward angle. I have shot prone with mine and had no issues kicking up/back/out dirt.
