Gunsmithing R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

Re: R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

I would say mid Oct to Dec of 66. I have a 236,XXX with a barrel date code of 9/66. However, there are a few knowitalls here who I am sure are always willing to argue just for the sake of another post and argueing with someone they don't know or never met!!

SD Thanks for the help. Definatly needed to confirm that this action was suitable for a M40A1 build. You were very close with your 1966 date. I talked to remington this morning and they told me 1967 but the didnt know what month. Thanks again<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: SDWhirlwind</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I would say mid Oct to Dec of 66. I don't know anything, just for clarity, no barrel? That being most convenient for determining date.

Re: R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

You can call Remington and ask. They can't give you much information (like original caliber, barrel length, police, etc.) on anything pre-1978 or so, but they can give you the approximate year it was built.

1-800-243-9700 and punch buttons for "Historic Information" until you get a human.

Thanks for the heads up. I called Remington this morning followed your directions and talked to Julie. She told me that the action is a 1967 but she cannot tell what month it was built. Re: R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

The Rem 700 book has dates and barrel date codes.
Lacy? Cannot remember the author. Can look it up if you PM me with barrel date codes.

Re: R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

I have one that is around 65,000 or so.
It has tapped holes in the side of the rear bridge for a rear sight and it does not have the anti-bind rail that supports the bolt through the ejection port.
Any ideas what year it was made?
I was figuring on early 60's or maybe even late 50's.

I wish I had the barrel, I only have the action. It is clip slotted already and is that serial number. Makes me wonder. I did talk to Remington yesterday and they told me it is a 1967 but could not specify what month.

Re: R700 serial number 239587 manufacture date?

I will get the book out tonight and see what I can find. I will also look at my M40 and check the #. It is 221,??? and was in the first batch from 66. Scope and mount #s are matching so it is correct.
