what is everyone carrying for their rain gear? my team issues us old military gortex, but im looking for something lighter that is easily packable?

I use LL bean. It's light and compacts nicely and they have a lifetime guarantee. When I rip it or tear it I ship it back or walk into their store and they give me brand new stuff no questions asked. I have military goretex gear as well but even the thin stuff I find too hot in the late spring and summer. It's great for October-March though.

I have used many of their products in the field and find they are probably the best value out there. I have sat in some very wet and rainy buck blinds and stayed nice and dry inside of their products. At their price point most employers dont argue their purchase either. My father runs the technical crews of a cable company and issues them frogg toggs as rain gear and the techs (20-30 guys) have been happy with them for about 4 years now. You'll burn a set up if you use them every day, but that goes for every product.
They also make lots of different jackets for different purposes.

I have kryptek Poseidon lightweight rain gear. I shopped around and checked out kryptek, stika and couple others. I liked kryptek it is lightweight and cost. I picked up the set at cabalas for under $300. They have a leaf plan for LE also.
The Sierra Designs stuff is fairly cheap, easily packable, and moderately durable. If you want really good stuff pick up the Helly Hansen work wear. I've got a set of both, they each serve different purposes, but if I'm going to be working outside in a monsoon, I'm in the Helly's with a set of Neos. Rain wear shouldn't wear out if you use it every day.
Frogg Toggs are about the cheapest thing on the planet. I bought 2 sets. The first shredded my first day at work. I thought maybe it was a fluke so I bought a second set. Those shredded the first day I used them as well. They suck for anything other than a quick set if you need to stay dry for a short time, not for constant wear. Keep a set in the car for changing a tire in a downpour, don't buy a set thinking you're going to take them through the woods.

I got a Marmot Precip jacket on sale at Campmor about two years ago and it is the lightest, most packable rain jacket I've ever owned. It breathes well and keeps the elements out. Best $70 I've spent in a long time.
Kuiu rain gear has been fantastic for me... And I've beat the heck out of it in the field and it's still going strong .. They've since improved their rain gear from what I have heard but I'll stick with the original chugach series I have until I destroy it somehow.... Extremely light and breathable...... However, NOT cheap..
Either Arcteryx or Kuiu. Lightweight and bombproof. Yeah it's expensive but when I'm relying on a piece of gear to keep me comfortable and dry, I defer to buy once cry once...

It's not cheep. But, it lasts and don't sweet you bad.
Best part.... It come in the mail. No mall trips!
If it's not what you want, just send it back. As long as it's not
Distorted and in good shape, they take it back.
Biggest part of my wardrobe is Eddie Bauer.
