I'm looking for the best suggestion for protecting my rifle from rain/snow while hiking into my long range spots with the rifle strapped to my pack. I have a great scope/action wrap made by Sunrise Tactical but I'd like to also have something over the muzzle as the rifle will be pointed up. Just tape a piece of plastic bag over the muzzle brake and use the wrap I have? Or get something like the Cole-Tac Rifle Guardian? Or one of those Solo Huntr covers? Will mostly be for rifles with 26" barrels although I'd like it to fit my 29.5" Norma. Some rifles have folder, others don't. Suggestions?

They make small finger condoms for medical purposes. They work perfect to cover the muzzle and they stay good
Seriously, just a plastic baggie and some masking tape will keep 99% of shit out of it.
Balloons can be tied off and one can shoot through them for the first shot if necessary.
Unless you want a closet queen, one for shooting in fair weather or just to display, an all weather synthetic stock works best if you anticipate shooting it in inclement weather.

None of these are safe queens, they're all in chassis and they get shot in shitty conditions all the time. Was more just to keep rain/snow/shit out of the end of the barrel and out of the action as I'll be hiking multiple kms with them strapped to my pack (muzzle up as opposed to patrol carry like when I'm not going too far)to get to my destination where they'll be shot.

I hunt in wet crappy conditions all the time in AK. I keep a few wraps of electrical tape around the barrel, and a piece over the muzzle. If it falls off or you shoot through it, cut off another section from what you wrapped around the barrel and you're good to go.

So I was in this same dilema a while back. I wanted something to cover the muzzle of my AR, but would also be somewhat heat resistant if I had to put it on hot, since I'm training for the Vortex Sniper challenge. I came across one of these-silicon curling iron sleve.
Works great. I can also put the rain cover on my pack and cover the rifle and it won't poke through. Helps a ton for training in the neighborhood

Electrical tape, it worked on the tundra of Alaska while caribou hunting, so would assume it would work anywhere.
Don’t have any balloons around the house but I do keep a few boxes of disposable latex gloves in the garage for working on cars. If you have any of those you could take a glove and cut off a finger section and use that to cover the muzzle.
If you want to go with more of a finished look, you could purchase a bag of silicone caps and use those.
