I stood by the shore, fishing and watching the storm roll in. There was cool almost chilly breeze, as is pretty normal this time of year in Colorado. The fish were biting, one after another I pulled little Crappie out, mostly none bigger than my hand, a couple sunfish about the same size, and some good sized large mouths. Watching the storm, watching the lightning getting closer. I catch another little crappie and as I pull it out of the water, there is a boil. Something just tried to eat, the fish the size of my hand I just caught. So, I dip it back in the water. A big large mouth comes up and disappears that little fucker in her cavernous mouth. The large mouth tries to run off with it but my line plus it out of its mouth. It did the same thing three more times when I dipped the crappie back in, but with a 1/16oz jig in the crappies mouth, there was no way to get a hook in the big fish. Finally the lighting got too close and I had to puss out to the car, and watch the storm. Ended up with a little meat for the freezer. IMG_5679.JPG

Sorry didn't photograph them, just filletted them. Throwing a Walmart bag full of fish circus in the trash made me wonder about making fish emulsion. Fried fish, and summer squash, spiced with jalepeno and Anaheim [new mexico #9 stolen by a Californian] pepper medallions, fresh from the garden; of course, and big juicy Cherokee purple tomatoes, fed from the good of the land. Too bad I still have to wait a few months for everything but the fish... Squash love that fish emulsion.

awesome, i have been hankering for some salt water fishing...

I have always wanted to do some big game fishing. My grandfather lived in Washington and loved to go out and fish on the Ocean.

Last time this little jewel in the desert dried up. We went out with our bows during the fish harvest. We were dragging out grass carp that were 4.5-5.5ft long and 30 pounds plus. Biggest fish I ever caught, but it could be bait in the ocean. My dad caught a nine pound large mouth and a 4.5 lb small mouth out of this lake before it dried up in about 2002. It filled back up about 3 years ago, but is on a steady decline.

Beautifu photos, thanks for sharing. You should enter them in a contest...no shit they are that good.

Beautiful scenery!

8y/o with a bass from Sunday before last. He caught a similar one the Sunday before that.

Nice taste in pickup trucks. Did you happen to weigh that monster?

Awesome pics! I had a shelf cloud like that ride my ass for 5 miles back to shore while I was in my kayak, luckily the wind was at my back. Still, I barley made it back.

For whatever reason, clouds like that have always meant great fishing opportunities for me in the past, until it hits, then everything goes to shit.. Thanks for sharing

MtnCreek, good job getting the youngsters outside; probably the best thing my father ever did for me was take me fishing; so many lessons to be learned: patience, circle of life, conservation, and so on....

Oh, and that bass is a HAWG!!!

My scales a broke... last time I used them my ~6# bass only showed a little under 5... so I leave them in the bag now... :-D I'd say that's an honest 4+# fish. We called it 5. :)

Thats one hell of a black head. You should do something about his skin condition...a dermatologist perhaps.

JUST KIDDING

Beautiful fish beautiful son.

LOL. 4lbs is a big fish. I bet the one that came and took the Crappie ran about 4lbs. With a mouth a little kid could fall in. Might have been a clone of the one in your picture. Nice fish.

Credit to my wife, she took the pictures, I fished. The colors are unreal. I wish she would have got some after the storm passed and everything was tinted gold by the setting sun. It was one of the most scenic storms I have ever seen roll in. The pictures are beautiful, but I wish a photo could do justice to the spectacle that unfolded before us. It was truly better than anything on TV.

Rather than the emulsion, just make a fish stock and freeze it. Next time you fry up your fish use the stock and some roux to make a Creole, Coubion, or Etoufee to use as a sauce for the fish. Some fried or blackened fish over rice topped with one of those sauces will make you regret all the times you did it any other way.

All of those recipes are easy to find a million versions of online and your addition of the summer squash would fit in just fine. When you google, "coubion" and "courtbullion" are the same thing.

I caught some bluegill during during a warm spell in February and did them as above, right now in Northern IL what I've got is fishing weather but not quite catching weather yet. I saw a mess of young bullfrogs while out walking yesterday, so hopefully the fish will be acknowledging the arrival of Spring any day now.

Beautiful scenery and any day out rippin lips is a success, regardless of weather.

You could actually still make emulsion after you boil off the oils and make stock, but at that point it is no better than the emulsion you get from the store. They also boil out the expensive part and sell it separately. Thanks for the tip, I will be adding a couple bags of fish stock to my "stock pile" LOL. We make bone and vegetable stock regularly.

Amazing Vagina cloud formations.

Sort of like a cumulo nimbus but much angrier at certain times of the month.

Rebecca and I are going out Sat at sunrise. Will head up the Hillsborough river at lunch time to Rick's on the river.
After stuffing ourselves on oysters, we will hit the docks around Davis Island for linesiders until sunset.
Hopefully this trip will be more successful than the last one.
Would love to wet a line with you. Any time you have even a half day, let's just get out there.

weathers been great, have a good one stud, sounds like a blast, i think after business closes i am going to take all the kidos to skyway fishing pier, see if i cant pull some lunch up...
we will get out there...
i still dont have the range mowed

The weather is out of this world great right now and I'm inside watching a movie.
The schools of bait should be showing up about now, so bring a sabiki rig or two to get some greenies.
Hope you guys knock it out of the park and get a cooler full
