Ram shot LRT 338 edge???

seeing as I can’t find h1000 I figured I’d try something different.
picked of several lbs of ram shot LRT.

I spoke with western powders and they said the burn rate is similar to retumbo with better temp stability..

anyone have any experience loading it in big calibers similar to the edge or in the edge? Care to share your data ...

I was thinking about trying it in 300 RUM, but found some more 8133 and then N570. If you find anything interesting/unexpected with LRT, please do post, as it could be useful for future.

I did reach out to western powder and the said the burn rate was slight slower than retumbo. So I’m assuming it’s almost as slow as n570 or rl33.
But as soon as I get some load data and stuff I’ll post it up for sure.
Not much in the way of info on ram shot powders for whatever reason

Can't tell you about your Edge, but LRT is what I use in my LM. I wanted to start out with Retumbo when I got my 338LM but since that was unobtanium I tried H1000 and Rel 33(?). Wasn't impressed with those and LRT came out at the same time so I tried it. Seemed to shoot the best. Shooting the 250's, 285's and sometimes the 300's. But...I also feel that I was just getting started and just getting used to the rifle so my ability is probably more of a question (issue) than anything. I do have another 1 3/4# of H1000 I'm going to try again just to compare now that I'm used to the rifle/caliber. That said, I'm just ready to open my second 8# jug of LRT. Seems to work fine for me. YMMV. Greg

I've been using it a bit - it's on the slow side though, like slower than N570 and RL33. From my experience it's between N570/RL33 and RL50.

Part of the reason I picked up the LRT was because I couldn’t get h1000 for the edge. Which anything for lapua should be able to be used in the edge.
Retumbo isn’t very temp stable so that left me with LRT.

Well that’s good to know. The edge likes h1000 and retumbo.

Seems between N570 and retumbo
N170 is excellent in the 338 edge for non speed demon loads.
I’ll be switching to N570 after my barrel speeds up and brass is all once fired.

I don't have enough points to sample to accurately gauge the temp sensitivity yet. I got it because it was available and in the zone for the magnum stuff I mostly shoot, though I didn't realize it was as slow as it really is. I use an Autotrickler v3 setup and LRT flows much more reliably than the big stick powders like N570. I think it's too slow for .338 Edge (at max you're going to be well under the pressure ceiling), and while it works in .338LM with heavy 300gr bullets, you'll never get pressure signs and be about 100-150fps slower than RL33/N570 unless you've got a really long barrel (ie 34"+).

I have a 30” barrel. I’m hoping I can see 2800 + FPS with berger 300 gr OTM bullets.
Only time will tell

Ok seeing as you have to cool program I’ll ask you this. Superformance powedr in 338 edge? Yay or nay? I’m assuming pressures would be to high or wouldn’t burn all the powder

I don't see Hodgdon's Superperformance in QL, but seeing that it's similar to H4831, it's likely way too fast. You'll probably get similar speeds to LRT, but with less volume and much higher pressures.

Isn't it dependent on FB? Above seem very light. RUM case is far more impressive seated out. 94 grains 8133 is my node for fireforming ADG in my 300 with 220 lrht's (~3150fps), but I'm at 3.97 COAL with that projectile for 15 off.

Tried it in my 338LM. First, take it meters very well and shoots a bit cleaner than Rotumbo. Accuracy is comparable to similar velocity loads I use with Rotumbo, plus it was available. Got mine from the Hodgdon site. Since it was designed specifically for similar cartridges, I have high hopes.

I have been doing some ladder testing with ramshot LRT in my 300 PRC. I have all the numbers but have not crunched them yet. I started as high as 85 grains and was getting speeds up to 2950 ft per second. Ladder tested all the way down to 74 grains and still had a very respective 2450 feet per second. This is from a Savage Elite Precision with a 30-inch bull barrel. I have used the Hornady 225 eldm and been able to hit half mile Target. Hoping to do the same with this, trying to save my Barrel so we'll see how the ballistics is with 77 grains and go from there. Sorry I forgot to include that the ladder testing was all done with 250 grain a tip.

You do realize this post is over a year old… not to mention a 338 edge is a lot different than a 300prc..
