This weekend I really got to put the new glass through the paces of a multi target range. We went down to N.C to enjoy a weekend of blasting which included about 7 hours on a 400m range with multiple popups and movers at various speeds, ranges, angles, sizes and distances along with hostages and no shoots. Firing positions ranged from prone to various levels up to 4 stories with various roofs contours and window type positions.
I am nowhere near qualified to speak on glass quality and that is not what this is about, although I will say that I have Leupold , Vortex, NF, U.S Optic and S&B mounted here at home and I did not feel slighted in the least with the Bushnell on this range. What I did enjoy was the rapid ability to knock down multiple engagement scenarios with the HDMR. After about 30 min on the range, it was almost impossible to let a mover get away. We were given multiple target runs with the far and near movers running mixed in with popups at 200,250,300,350 and 400 meters that would have been totally impossible dialing holdovers but with the HDMR, my 17 year old son could smoke clean runs. I had along rifles mounted with P4f and TMR ret and while I could effectively engage the targets with these weapons, timing was considerable slower for both. We could not be nearly as consistent on the longer movers with the TMR or P4f as we were forced to hold out in the air with lead and wind calls. Had the distance been further that 400m it would have been REALLY tuff for me, as the main horizontal cross would have been above the target, giving little reference point.
For a multiple engagement situation at various distances the HDMR h59 glass would be hard to beat in my opinion. I put about 500-600 rounds through the scope this weekend without a hiccup, so as for durability, that’s all I can say. It seems built like a tank and has a Bushnell warranty so we will see how it goes, but I do have plans to acquire more! This glass seems to be a Gas Gunners Dream and I was sold on the Gas Gun HDMR combo for this type engagement scenario.
