This is outstanding!! I only other 1,000 yard range I knew of was Tac Pro in the DFW area and that is about 4 hours away.
I'm in McAlester, OK and this is about an hour and a half away from me.
If anyone knows of a range closer to my neck of the woods I'd appreciate it.

US Shooting Academy in Owasso has a really nice 300 meter range with steel targets always up. Know it's not 1,000 but just saying. I'm a member and shoot out there all the time. I would be interested to know of any other ranges in NE OK too that are longer distance. But USSA is top notch and they offer training. Just FYI.

There is the Lake Eufaula Rod & Gun club in McAlester but they only have 100 Yards and a pistol range.
On the plus side, I'm usually the only one there and it's $20 a year.

I would also like ot know if there are any closer shooting ranges in NE Oklahoma. Also +1 for USSA, they offer some pretty nice training and a always good to go 300 meter range, which is pretty nice.

This is BS... we live in OK there should be more ranges than ones in freakin big city tulsa and bum f*$@ no where west OK lol no offense west OK boys. I agree it would be nice to have one close. OKC Gun Club in Arcadia has steel out to I think 600 yards and has a 600 yard highpower range.

I hear there is a doctor in the McAlester area that has a lot of land and is open to the idea of a private (read very) range.

No, you can shoot out to 600yds at Red Castle any day of the week, twice a year they close the road and competitors shoot over the clubhouse (1000 yards). Not wanting to piss in anyones Wheaties, would hate for a guy to make the drive from another part of the state to be disappointed.

No, you can shoot out to 600yds at Red Castle any day of the week, twice a year they close the road and competitors shoot over the clubhouse (1000 yards). Not wanting to piss in anyones Wheaties, would hate for a guy to make the drive from another part of the state to be disappointed.

I'm in the OKC and agree, for a state with a lot of flat open land, it's unbelievable that there aren't more ranges available... Canadian Valley Range off of Banner Rd. near El Reno was my staple, but I just found out about TinStar Range just east of Weatherford which as a 250yd range. Yes Tin Star is public. I think the reason there isnt any pubic LR ranges is because most people that shoot LR have access to private land where they can practice in peace. That and most land has cattle on it or near by so you cant just trust everyone to know what they are doing at 100 yards unless you want to buy a cow or two at a premium price.

The reason there are not a lot of Public ranges in Okla may be that there are so many private ranges. I don't know of any 1000 yd public ranges but I can shoot a lot further than that several places around here. You just have to know the landowners, most are fascinated by ELR and will drown you with questions. Some will ask to shoot the rifles, I always encourage them to do so. One of the landowners is a cranky old fart that owns around 2000 acres, I can go past a mile on his place. I asked about shooting there and expected him to tell me to go to hell, instead he asked me how fer you wanttin ta shoot. I told him over a mile and he said I gotta see this. Anyway long story short he got addicted and comes down to shoot with me just about every time I go to his place. He has given me keys to all his gates, there is a downside, he has my cell number and has called me on a couple of occasions in the middle of the night to come help him pull a calf.

I've got access from 100 to over 1000yrds anytime I want. If any of yall have a Armalite AR-30 in .338LM, I will make a spot for you. My father is looking at getting one and would like to shoot it...its his land.

Most plots of land in Okla are 1/4, 1/2, or full sections. 1/4 sections are usually 440yds x 880yds (80 acres), 1/2 sections are 880yds x 880yds (160 acres). You can shoot beyond 1000yds on a 1/2 section and 984yds on a 1/4 section diagonally if it's all wheat field, flat no trees and a good back stop. You would need a minimum of 14.37 acres for a 1000yd range (208.71' x 3000'). Your best bet is find a farmer/rancher that wouldn't mind you shooting LR on his place. Im lucky that all my family owns land I can shoot on. I prefer shooting this way because all of my LR shooting is hunting not matches. The problem you have is eastern Okla has more trees. Where I shoot and live is western Okla. If you find a place treat the owner right. Offer to help build fence etc and they will usually do you right. Good luck

My bad you are correct 640 acres in a section, 43,560 sq ft in a acre, 1 acre is 208.71' x 208.71'

You would be correct in your thinking. Private land is where it's at due to agriculture and cattle.
Around the cities it's an issue of affording the equipment time to ensure the final berm is dumbass proof for liability reasons.

Do not show up at Red Castle expecting to just shoot. Check them out online and get registered. It is a little bit of a process.
The USSA is running some really good specials right now and is a great place to train up to 300 and for pistol and carbines.
Also, there is a 200 yard range in Sapulpa that anyone can show up and shoot at for like $10, it's called Happy Hollow

But are they a square section? you can still have a 1/8 section that's rectangular enough to get 2k (6,000' x 580.8' is just over 193 yards wide). Plenty of room. Buy a section, fence off what you want to use for a range, lease the rest for grazing or dryland farming?
