I fail to see how this would surpass the accuracy of Pacific tool. I cant even see where you'd expect any form of accuracy from brass rod you'd buy at a store.

Well....
I buy alot of goodies from Dave, including range rods. However, if you have a lathe you can make your own from brass stock. Been there done it. Daves stuff is right on but if you need a bastard size in a big hurry, well make your own. You have a lathe so use it. When I make mine I mic the bore and make a stepped rod at a given dimension and taper it. My tapered steps are a minimum of 2" long, so a .243 rod is 8" min. Yes, brass is the material to use as it is softer than your barrel material. I keep some on hand for when Dave can't get what I need in time or I was stupid and forgot to order it : )
