Looking for a rangefinder for heavy woods and some open fields. Hunting in southern Indiana with hills and hollows. Any price range for most effective without false readings. Thanks in advance for your comments!

Can’t beat the Sig Saur Kilo Rangefinders (ie kilo2000 Kilo 2200’s). Perform as well or better than. Many of the big name RF’s and you can find them from the low $300’s up. Don’t think you can go wrong with them.

I have a sig kilo 2200 and it is a fine piece of equipment. It will range as far as you can see and at $400 its a great value.

Furman,

There are lots of choices out there that might meet your needs. The more expensive ones will provide higher level ballistics information for your shots, while others, like the Leica 2400 or Sig 2200 are more basic in those terms, but do not lack in terms of ranging performance. Just depends what your needs are. In terms of false ranges, a smaller beam divergence is probably the best way to ensure you hit what you are aiming at, and not hitting something else. Leica's (and Vec x) have a very small divergence, smallest in class IIRC, and the laser's shape is optimized to minimize 'close range' accidental hits. The Sigs divergence is about twice the size and is round, but they have settings (last range etc.) that help minimize close range accidental hits.

There are a bunch of other things to consider in terms of workflow, glass etc. I have a review on the 2700b on this board that might help, but I'll also be in Northern Indiana in a few days with the Leica 2700 and the Sig 2400 BDX, doing some (hopefully!) snow testing for a review...though mother nature seems like she may not cooperate. Anyway, not sure if you are anywhere near South Bend, but if you are, you are welcome to come check them out in the field if that would help.

Thanks for the reply Catorres1!! Things are more cluttered in a forest area with some open fields. Thanks for the info on beam divergence, thats something I need to keep in mind. Want something not big but to fit in a large size pocket. Thanks for the offer to meet up, but not able to do at this time. I will look up your review on the Leica 2700 or if you can give me a link would help.

Everyone’s going to give their opinion on what they use so Take that for what’s its worth.
I currently use Sig Kilo 2400 and Love it. Small, Light weight, and accurate. Never have had an issue.

Looking at the Leupold RX-2800 TBR/W , any good?
I bought one to try out. The laser is very powerful. I have ranged buildings at 2,890 yards with it. I have ranged deer at about 1,000 but I have not had the opportunity to try farther than that. The beam divergence is small. I have ranged ~2 moa steel targets at over 1,300 yards. I have seen them for as cheap as $400.
