Razor 4000 at night?????

Ok, I’ve not used a rangefinder for years. On a whim I bought a Vortex Razor 4000 and just walked outside minutes ago to give it a try. To my surprise it does not work at night!? WTF? It gave me a reading of over 2k yards on my neighbor’s garage door across the street. Trying to range down the street and it gave me no reading. It works inside the house with the lights on.

Is this normal behavior for one of these? I can’t figure out why daylight or light in general would make a difference.

I took it out this morning in the light and it performed very well. I’m still stumped as to why it won’t work at night. Even at close distances.

I will call Vortex on Monday to get some answers.
