Rifle Scopes Razor amg question

The fact that they had to outsource to Germany for reticles............

but, did they really have to? Serious question what would it have cost per unit to keep it 100% made is the USA? An extra 5,10,15,20$ how many wouldn't mind paying just a little more.....I have no dog in the fight just wondering?

That is not true. They are at about 36 per week now and will soon be up to around 48 per week.

36 per week? I wonder who the hell is getting all these scopes, cuz it sure as hell isn't Liberty Optics. I can't wait to NEVER get in on a pre-order ever again. Hell I could've just saved my money for a couple months and then called around til I found one. Probably would of have had it months ago. Live and learn I guess.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. If sourcing the reticle from Germany gets me my scope quicker then I'm all for it. Vortex had to make a tough decision to keep up with production and I'm sure that's not what they wanted, especially knowing that there would be a bunch of butt hurt patriots out there whining because some laser etching on their Merican made glass was done in Germany. I mean really...who gives a shit? Just get me my damn scope!

Edit 1 Hour Later: Well color me happy as fuck. Exactly 1 hour after my original post FedEx shows up at my door with my scope. LOL guess the Vortex guys were listening. Finally the wait is over.

Yes they had to. Not a cost issue but a supply and quality issue. Nothing to do with money. If they could find a US provider they would use them. There aren't any that can provide the quality and supply.

They are coming. Production should pick up more as the year goes on. It's just getting a completely new product line up and running and ground up produced in house takes some time so nothing falls through the cracks.

I agree with your second paragraph. This scope is more American made than any other and people should be happy about it but being slightly upset is understandable but you are still getting a made in the USA product from a Made in the USA company.

I just bought two during the last 4 months from two different stores w/o any waiting time, MOA though.

All I can say is they are a great Company making some fine optics. I started with a PST 1-4...then added a PST 6-24 FFP....then added a Razor HD 5-20...then added a Viper 6.5-20 that came on a rifle I bought....then added a Razor G2 4.5-27. Had a S&B PMII 5-25 and compared it to the RG2....sold the S&B. Patiently waiting for my AMG which I should have in a few more weeks and I'm ok with a German etched reticle. They are doing everything right and their growth of products over the last several years is instrumental in the improvements and innovation we are seeing through-out the optics industry. I hope and pray others find a way to start coming back from 0% made in America to 99% made in America. Hey and I'm in the U.P. of Michigan and they are my neighbors to the South and we both root for the GREEN BAY PACKERS!

I appreciate the effort on Vortex's part to make an all American scope, but in the end, it doesn't matter. The fact that I placed an order for one of these nearly a year ago, and it's still not been delivered, however, does. Particularly with so many new offerings constantly hitting the market. The specifications are what got me fired up about this thing, but the technology vs price point seems to be advancing in an exponential manner over the last few years, so one has to wonder about the 'bang for the buck' on this thing holding up, in comparison to all else that is currently hitting the market.

In defense of Vortex, this thing is the closest to a 100% American made scope you can buy. If you don't like the fact that the reticle is done in Germany, you could always use some of that American ingenuity, and brainstorm a way to open up a laser etching facility right across the street from Vortex's facility!

After looking at the AMG at SHOT and researching the specs I will continue to impatiently wait for my AMG ordered to be filled.....twice. This scope is the beginning of a process that it seems many of us would like to see, which is bringing the manufacturing back to America, especially of our toys.

You should be getting pretty close if it's been a year already. Hell, I was bitching yesterday just a few posts above about how I still didn't have my scope, an hour later it shows up. LOL Go figure. Took mine 14 months almost to the day.

More to the tune of millions of dollars in startup for someone to actually source and purchase the required equipment, get it set up, and start manufacturing reticles - at least, that's the understanding I have of it. It would literally take someone spinning up a new business.

I'm not saying it's not a great scope, and I'm not outraged by any means, I just find the change to be unappealing. The scope is mounted, performing admirably, and I have no intention of getting rid of it. Call me old fashioned, but 100% means 100%. A "100% beef" burger that is in all reality 1% pig anus might still taste fine, but how tasty is it after you find out about that pesky little percentage.

haha funniest thing I've read in a long time

The center crosshairs on my German made reticle is no doubt, the master reticle. At 24x, it is incredibly fine.....never seen a FFP that pulled this off so perfectly. Target is 100 yards, while zeroing a RPR on 24x.

I feel for you guys still waiting on your pre-orders, I'll definitely learn from your experience and never pre-order a rifle scope.

I ordered my First AMG in mils from Cabela's when they first listed them on their website on sale for $2199 and received it a couple months later for total shipped price with cabelas visa incentives of $2089. Not having a home for it, I sold it in the classifieds and made some money. I was planning on building a LR hunting 300 Norma so I ordered another from Cabelas figuring it would be a while but received it a month later.. I ended up selling that one months back as well.

That said, finding a german solution to help mfg timelines makes 100% sense to me.

Just to make something abundantly clear.....I am in the beef business and I want to make sure that everyone is aware that ALL of our pig anus products are 100% AMERICAN sourced!!

As for reticles, I could care less.

Carry on. ;)
