Rifle Scopes Razor HD gen2 or XTR3

I’m looking to make a pretty decent jump in scopes for next season comp rifles and I’m toying with either the rzr gen2 or the new XTR3. I’m coming from a Nikon Fx1000 match rig and want something that will be the next level without breaking the bank since it’s got to approved by the warden.

I know the rzr has a pretty solid track record over the years it’s been out and seems to be on most people’s list of good glass for a comp rifle. While the XTR3 is new and pretty much unproven in the real work other then a few sponsored shooters running them towards the end of last season.

Like you said, the Gen2 Razors are a proven scope and very popular on match rifles. For the prices they can be found for now, I think its a helluva deal! The XTR3’s are a new scope and not yet proven. I love my Razor, but at the same time I am very much thinking of snagging a 3.3-18 XTR3 once they come out with the illuminated reticle model.

I'm in the same boat as OP. I want to upgrade to something more robust and better and I am coming from mid tier glass. I'm going to go with the XTR3 simply because of weight and FOV. Those criteria sealed it for me since I dual purpose my rig for local PRS and hunting. Since I am still building the mad money fund and waiting is a necessity it makes the decision easy for me. If I had to have glass this week and had funds available I would be grabbing a Razr gen 2 used off the forum from a known member to use and then selling it and upgrading once the xtr3 was out in the wild. (especially the illum model). Just my 0.02

The XTR3 is the clear underdog here. A proven performer in the Razor versus the new kid on the block.

I compared these at a match on Saturday. Myself and another guy gave the XTR3 the nod due to slightly brighter glass. But it was really close. Eyebox, turrets, etc, made for damn near a dead heat. The Burris is lighter with better FOV, the Razor has a long excellent track record.

My two bits, pick the model with the features you like. You cant go wrong with either.

Another thing to consider here is that the Gen 2 is probably going to be a fair bit cheaper than the XTR3, at least until the dust of a new product settles and the secondary market is set.

I would expect them to end up around the same market value in terms of used optics but new XTR3 and used Gen 2 prices are not going to be particularly comparable in the interim.

If you’re going to be an early adopter of the XTR3 (or any new optic for that matter) and then 12 months later decide to go a different route, you’re going to lose money. Whereas with a Gen 2 (or any other optic that’s been out for a while), the market has long been set and you’ll have a much better chance of at least breaking even.

I went to the burris site and couldn't find if the diopter is locking or not. Is it?

Yes, the XTR3 has a locking diopter.

The diopter and parallax are night and day from the XTR II. I set mine a week or so ago, it took me less than a minute. Locked it into place and havent touched it since.

I've used mine now from late evening, to early morning, to atrocious midday mirage. Parallax has been a breeze.

A hide vendor posted in the original XTR3 thread their street prices, compared very favourably to Hide pricing on the Razor.

This XTR3 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated optics indeed.

Is the XTR III going to be that much better than the II for the price increase.
Im looking to replace the XTR II on my Vudoo it could use a lot of improvements. I hate to say it but my Athlon Midas Tac is better in some areas at half the price. I may have to look at the Razor or increase my budget.

Post #6 Birddog said it compares favourably against the Razor G2, so it will be well worth the price.

If the XTRiii has a better field of view than a Razor at the same magnification that would be an amazing feat. Especially if the eyebox is just as generous as you are saying. I like the Razors. I just do not like the new reticle.

Get a hold of Mike. I dont know if they have any wiggle room with this being new to the market. But they can sometimes pull some strings for Hiders.

Razor is great scope ran one for a couple years until I switched to Khales. I’ve been behind xtr iii and it’s a huge upgrade from the II. If it’s just as reliable as the two I would go that rout I like the turrets better. Can’t go wrong with either
