FYI- that was a 7-1 decision, led by Republican appointees.
Stevens, O'Connor, Kennedy, Rehnquist, Souter were Republican appointees. Ginsburg and Breyer joined the conservative wing.
Scalia dissented because of technical reasons. Thomas did not vote because his son was enrolled in VMI.
Amy Barrett would be a great pick to put through quickly. Difficult to #metoo against, and she is young and able to be in for a long time.
If I were our pres, I'd make the announcement that Ted Nugent is being considered, unless the dems would like to approve Amy Barrett, Mike Lee, or Daryl Castle. But that Ted would bring a real grounding effect to balace some of the other lass patriotic members.

If Trump and the Senate leave a 8 member court to decide this election civil war is inevitable. It is likely this election will end in the SCOTUS. To have a 4-4 split would be a disaster because some lower court could decide this election. Because if the SCOTUS ties the lower courts ruling stands.
The only way to avoid a shitshow is to appoint a 9th Justice.

Now, you actually can argue the "installed" vs "elected" thing because if Biden were elected in November, Trump still has until Jan 19 to get his replacement in. So, that would be after a new president was elected, but before he was installed - and he wouldn't get the pick. Something I don't think most of us realize is how much the whole Abortion issue is pushed by the stupid democrats to drive, shame and scare women into voting for them.
