rcbs 3 in one cutter

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

RCBSTrimPro3-WayCutter22CaliberLeeS.jpg

The RCBS 3-way on an RCBS manual trimmer shaft, with the shaft mounted in a collet in a vertical mill. .223 case about to be trimmed is held in a Lee lock stud and shell holder. The lock stud is tightened and loosened with vise grips. This could also be done in a drill press.

The RCBS 3-way cutter head takes ~10 minutes of focused fiddling around to get adjusted, but once adjusted it works really well.

It would take even longer if you fell asleep reading the instructions:

I don't have the Forster, but in 1 - way trimming, Forster does everything better than RCBS.

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

The forster cutter has carbide bladed (not sure if RCBS uses carbide or steel) and seems to be built better. But they only offer it in 223, 243, and 308. RCBS offers it in all cals in between also.

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

I used the RCBS version for a while. Only problem I ever encountered was with brass that wasn't perfectly square causing the cut the be off to one side.

IIRC with the RCBS, you can buy a separate pilot and use the same cutter. Only drawback is resetting every time.

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

I just set up an rcbs 3way cutter and I also seem to be having a problem with the outside cut being off center. I ran a few different pieces of brass and made sure that it was positioned fully in the base plate. Any adjustment advice?

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

I took the inside chamfer pilot out of mine and still can't get the outside chamfer bit to go down far enough to touch the brass. I think I will be returning this unit and maybe giving it one more try. Does anyone think that these aren't really that big of a time saver? Thats what I'm thinking right now.

Re: rcbs 3 in one cutter

You cant interchange the trimmer parts with other companies can you? Like in other words, you cant just put the Forster cutter on a RCBS trimming unit can you? Sorry for the beginners question, I am just starting to gather some reloading equipment

I have experienced this same phenomenon as well in both .223 and .243 (the only two calibers I have tried).

You can, but it is a serious pain in the ass.
