Like it says.... Is it worth the cash to buy one? I reload around 500 rounds per month of rifle ammo, and would like to speed things up a bit more. Let me know what you think.....

yes, not only it saves time, if you have different charge for different load, you can store all of them in the memory and have quick and easy access to it.

They are great, but I ended up double weighing (from the charge master to a balance beam scale), because it's hard to control the over trickle on the Chargemaster. I state that because if you end up double weighing, it won't really speed up your loading time. That being said, I don't know how I got along without one.

BTW.....they say to put in a McDonalds drink straw in the spout of the Chargemaster to help with the over trickle. I don't know why, but I still need to try that....

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

I let a buddy borrow mine & I missed it the one week that he had it. Before I got it back from my buddy he had already order one for himself.

I love mine and I would not want to be without it

My buddy did the McDonalds straw trick and it worked like a charm. He doesnt double weigh and gets very consistent throws. You should give it a shot, it's a free upgrade.

Yes sir, you need to give this a shot. I tried for the first time two weeks ago and it really helped. I highly recommend it.

Heck, treat yourself to a ice cream cone while you're there!

</div></div>Even if you don't do the McDonalds straw installation, it is very easy to take a few grain out with a small pinch and put it back in the main bin that holds the powder. It takes just a few seconds to accomplish this and it is weighing as you do this. If you take too much out it will try to compensate by getting the pan up to the pre-set ammount. I can keep it running quite quickly with the chargemaster.
While it's not as fast as a big Dillon progressive, it is quite precise having that much scrutiny during powder measures.
Kinda hard to have it both weighs (Pun intended)

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

I love mine. Its fast, its accurate and when loading many different calibers its awesome to be able to store loads. And hbow about this for rcbs customer service. I was moving things around my basement, and dropped the clear plastic cylander off my chargmaster onto solid concrete. Broke a big chunck out of it. I emailed rcbs about ordering a replacement piece and inside a week they sent me a new one free of charge.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

I love my chargemaster. Takes the pain out of reloading.

The only thing I would replace it with would be a Prometheus but I dont have that sort of cash or time to wait for one to be made.

Cant say enough good stuff about it. If i had the cash spare I would even buy a second one.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

When i first got into reloading a year ago, I knew i wanted accurate, but fast rounds. I had $1k to spend on all my supplies... I saw the chargemaster on sale for $270 at the time, and jumped to it quickly. It might have been 1/4 my initial budget, but it was the best thing I bought. I changed some of the settings to speed it up, and it drops 42grains of RL15 in about 9seconds now... I love it, couldnt reload with out for rifle. Highly recommend it.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

if you ever drop ladder tests this thing is priceless. i dont get the overcharges people talk about?i dont need no stinking straw....yet. maby its the powder i use. i dont save weights either . it takes about 2 seconds to punch the wt you want then disp, disp, disp

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

worth it both when it works and when it breaks. Used mine for years and it suddenly quit, sent it back and 3 weeks and $30 later I had a brand new one on my bench

+1, worth every penny.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

ok im gona ask, how does the straw thing work? I have been reloading for years and been looking at the chargemaster for a few months now. Would like to get one but I hear good and bad thangs about them. This is great to hear the good from people that know. Im just wondering how the straw works?

The last 1/2"-3/4" of the CM's dispensing tube is threaded, to somewhat grab and hold onto the kernels and feed them out into the pan in an orderly fashion. At some point, kernels build up on the last few threads and the machine can be tricked into feeding more kernels into the pan, than needed, causing an over-charge.

I've tried the straw thing and I don't know if it mattered too much. On finer grained powders, mine works fine. For harder to dispense stick powders, I usually just set my weight to .1 grains under my target and that extra 'plop' usually ends up being on the mark.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

I love mine and wouldn't be without it, the scale is very accurate and doesn't drift like many other digital scales I have and have used.

Re: RCBS Chargemaster Worth The Cash?

I have the older RCBS/Pact setup, and I like it a lot, for 10 years it's performed flawlessly. The only complaint is, the speed at which it dispenses the charge. Recently I got the Chargemaster hoping to cut the time, but it was minimal if any. Then I read about changing the parameters to increase the dispensing speed and the results were awesome. To me it's worth the money only if you reprogram it.

Its $45 now, ask me how I know. Chargemaster just went to the post office and hour ago. The #'s 1,4, and 7 quit working. Since I had purchased it longer than a year ago, that's what they quoted me. Not too bad. Other than it breaking I love it.

By the way, I have used RCBS warranty and this is the first time I had to pay money. Funny thing is, every other time I had to use it, whatever broke was totally my fault. Now that I did nothing but plug it in, it costs me money.
