RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

Re: RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

tested forster only_preferred because has a good choice of calibers and some optional upgrades for other brass-related uses_when needed,I remember a very good and friendly customer service(really good people),even if I'm overseas _ their outside neck turner can be considered slow, because to perform at his best require to stop the turning, rotate of 180°the brass in his clamp, secure the clamp again,an start again the turning_at the times of my buy,for me it was the most complete (and good priced) system to trim,outs.n/t,inside neck reaming, with the largest array of accessories_ before any buy, please, will re-consider if you really NEED a FIXED BASE outside neck turner_

Re: RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

_generally the hand held outside neck turners are considered more accurate than the (more versatiles)fixed base neck turners_ I think the first thing must be the choice between those different n/t systems_ said that, personally I have buyed 2 fixed base Forster w.all related accessories, and a hand held NT1000 Sinclair outs.n/t _(only because we boys never stop to play,I suppose..)

Re: RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

I spent Wednesday and Thursday messing with an old Forster power outside neck turning attachment for their case trimmer.

Then Friday I solved my problems by turning necks on the lathe.
But not like Mike Bryant

I did it with the base of the case in the 6 jaw and a pin gauge in the tailstock chuck. I measured .0002" thickness runout with the ball mike.

Re: RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

Several neck turners will work quite well, most of the 'quality' of the cut is up to the user anyway. I don't know if my Forster HOT-100 is BR quality or not but it's very good and 'BR grade' doesn't matter, I only have SAAMI chambers so I don't shoot tight necked BR rifles at all.

Forster's cutter is carbide and it's 'notched' to reduce the effects of accidently cutting into the case shoulder.

Re: RCBS or FORSTER outside neck turner??

Of the two,I like the Forster best.Mine is as accurate as the more expensive ones, and the carbide blade is nice. The more expensive ones are easier to adjust/readjust.If you're serious about neck turning, buy a K&M,Sinclair or Hart.If you're only making one pass on one caliber, the Forster works fine, and is cheaper.Whatever you buy, also get a set of case holders, like Sinclair, that fit in a cordless screwdriver and forget the hand held case holder.Power is your friend.
