Hi there, i am going to take my Steyr SSG out of the stock to install a spigot and then spray it.

I would like to know when fitting the action back into the stock how tight do i put the screws in ? Is there a required pressure?

I really hope someone can help me here!

I don't know that I have ever seen an actual "number" from Steyr on the recommended Action Screw torque, but with the factory synthetic stock, I'd start at around 35 in/lb (around 4 Nm) and I wouldn't go any tighter than 45 in/lb (5 Nm) or you probably risk cracking.

Your best bet is to contact Steyr directly (by e-mail or by phone) and see if they have a recommended torque setting for the action screws.

WARNING, WARNING...if this is the SSG 69 you posted about the other day looking for a McM stock...I WOULD <span style="font-weight: bold">NOT</span> torque the stock that tight (which equates to 62 in/lb). You will almost certainly crack a bakelite/cycolac stock/tg with that much torque. The SSG 08 uses a completely different stock setup.

As for tools...yes, an adjustable torque screwdriver or wrench tuned to the appropriate value will get the job done properly.

Just to clarify...

OP has model 69 ... I searched the manual and they dont mention how tight....

Just email or call them...

4-5 Nm = 35-44 inch pounds... that might be too much.... to be safe, I would go with 3 Nm (26 inch pounds) till you hear back from them.

I used those numbers as a rough "guesstimate" of the correct value, but honestly I am not sure. I personally would recommend just finger tightening the screws ONLY for now until you can determine the correct torque value from Steyr. I don't think that value is printed in the SSG 69 user manual (its worth having a look though), so you may still need to contact Steyr for the info. You might also check the Steyr Club forum and see if you can find the value there if you are unable to obtain a quick response from Steyr.

ETA: looks like T.C. and I are thinking/typing at the same time. His advice above is the same as mine. The best course of action is to wait for the proper torque value from Steyr so that you don't create a problem that can easily be avoided.

WOW...that was FAST (I was expecting w/i 24hrs, but not within 24min)!! That said...that seems like a LOT of torque to me with that stock. BUT...if Steyr specified 7 Nm as the correct torque value for the SSG 69...go for it. I have to commit that figure to memory myself for future reference.

+1. Like I said before, if Steyr recommended that to you as the proper torque value for the action screws on the SSG 69...go for it.
