Advanced Marksmanship "Reading" wind

Related, search USAMU Wind Reading Tips from SFC Praslick. He has written a two part article on wind reading to serve aspiring HP shooters. Although the tips are in context to HP competition, remember, HP competition is a means for any shooter to get an understanding for everything important to good shooting no matter the shooter's destination.

I understand the meaning behind your comment, but food for thought per my earlier post,

High Power Shooters will utilize techniques and equipment, especially when it comes to wind, that other shooters will not have the luxury of using.

A hunter or sniper may not have the luxury of a spotting scope, and they will for sure not have the luxury of flags or sighters with someone marking the impacts.

I have seen HP Shooters who can crank off 10s & Xs on a square range, but who struggle when they get off the square range and have to operate in a manner they are not used to.

HP shooting is a great place to learn and polish skills, but jut make sure that you do not handicap yourself and build a reliance on things that you may or may not have the luxury of using in other situations.

When I coach shooters, I will encourage them to only utilize a single indicator for wind at certain points to evaluate and build the technique for that indicator. Obviously use all of the indicators and skills that you can, but also be prepared for your worst case scenario.
