Ready to order AI AE MKIII 308

Just set up the Nightforce on the AI 18moa mount. Its ok, I guess. Kinda high IMO. I'll run some medium Badger rings later and see how it feels but so far
the AI mount is ok.

Looks good. I wouldn't worry about the height. Run your cheek piece up, set it, and forget about it.

Dacam - nice rifle. Congrats!

Maybe a little late to this party...

I hear what you are saying... but $400 is pretty big money just to cover cleaning if you don't need the other benefits of a folder.

A cheaper fix is to buy a longer cleaning rod with a slimmer handle......

This is a ProShot 42" rod

In this pic the tip (without brush or jag) is around 1" clear of the muzzle on a 26" barrel with AI brake with a Mike Lucas boreguide in the receiver. A 48" rod would get you clear without the need to run over the butt pad (you can always remove it ;) ) and drawing blood!!

There are more advantages than just the easier cleaning. It can fit in a smaller case which means it can be transported in a tighter space just like my original post says.

I also prefer to keep my rods only as long as I need them to be so they can also fit in that smaller case if I want to bring them along.

Like I said, I wouldn't order a AI without the folding option. My AE MKI was that way and cleaning it sucked and it was long as hell especially with the can on it. When you're paying $4K for a rifle a $400 option is really just a fart in the wind.

This thread has great timing...I just received my AE MK III, yesterday morning, and almost had a case of buyers regret. It is my 1st tac-rifle, and the most I've ever spent on a firearm.

The build quality of this gun is incredible. Closes up like a bank vault.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for all of the positive things said about the AE...it has sure eased my mind.

Can't wait to shoot this thing now. I'm putting a Bushnell G2DMR, in a AI 18moa mount on it.

Congrats Beefman, I totally love mine.
I have a question though for everyone. I have shot 4 rounds at 100yds to set my zero, and 24 rounds at 100yds with 175g SMK to get my OCW load.
What I have noticed is that I have a lot of copper streaks in the grooves of the barrel all the way out to the muzzle. IMO it is kinda heavy copper fouling.
Accuracy was really good, half to sub-half groups.
Is this common with LW barrels? I have stripped it out with Sweets 762 but there is still some in there. Am I going to have a problem with copper fouling.

Great looking rifle!!!!!! I have the AI MKII with OD folder and 20" non brake. I topped mine off with some NF glass as well. If you don't like the height of the AI mount (I didn't either), you may want to look at the Nightforce unimount. It is 20moa and nice and low. I went with the NF unimount and I am very pleased with it. Welcome to the AI club

I was just about to pull the trigger (no pun intended) on an AI AE MKIII, but I decided to wait and see what AI replaces it with in January. I still may go with a MKIII. I'm planning on putting a Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 on it, and I'd like some advise on a mount. MHS recommends an Murphy 20 MOA rail, and I am thinking of a Spuhr mount 1.18. It's not the least expensive mount, but I've heard nothing but good about them.

Betting money on the UK forums thinks the replacement will be further removed from the AW... and likely a 'down-grade' version to widen the AI market.

If it's the right rifle for you I'd probably ensure you have back-up first refusal on an AE when the 'new' rifle appears

I have 30 rounds through mine. I also observed some heavy copper fouling. I'm not going to bother with cleaning it. I need rounds down range before I mess with her...Ran a boresnake (Once), that's it.
