Gunsmithing Really crooked action

Re: Really crooked action

It was is a E prefix. Face was cut that bad. I could see machine marks on half the face and other half looked like a file or grinder was used on it.

Re: Really crooked action

Hey guys I'm no gunsmith, but I think I've got a problem similar to the action in this thread. I'd appreciate any advice you can throw my way as to how I can fix it.

I bought a gun off the hide here a couple months ago. First time I fired it I had to put in 19 moa windage to get it zeroed. I switch the mount/rings/scope, took it out yesterday and same thing.

Worst part is the rifle shoots better than I do. I got one group under a quarter inch, and that was shooting fast and bitching about the windage issue.

Only thing I can figure is that the action/rail is out of line. Is there any way to correct this? Like maybe lining up bigger screw holes in the action?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Really crooked action

And people give Savages crap... Sorry I just had to.

But that is pretty bad. Remington QA just sucks. My 870 has never really worked right and I've gotten some Remington 30-06 ammo that was missing primers. Sad...

Re: Really crooked action

I have one in the E series, my smith said he only had to true it by .002...I guess i got one of the good ones

Re: Really crooked action

I have a friend with a Remmy, that the wear on the bolt shows that the bolt actually cams itself tight when closed. Brought it to me for a new scope mount, and epoxy bedding. SOB shoots <1/2 moa and the barrel looks like a blacktop driveway, all burned and crackly. 6 mm Rem caliber. Bolt lugs show pretty even wear. I made sure that the epoxy set with no strain on the action, and I can still feel the bolt camming tight when I close the bolt, bearing on the feed ramp. Pretty is as pretty does.
