Gunsmithing Reamer lead time

Hello how long does it normaly take to get a standard saami spec 7mm-08 reamer ? I brought all my parts to a gunsmith in april and he told me he had to order the reamer. Granted im not rushing by any means but shouldnt you be able to get a 7mm-08 reamer in a month ? He has all my parts and stated as soon as he got reamer he would start.

Another option is to call JGS, Manson or PTG.

I'd bet at least one of them has a 7mm08 reamer sitting on the shelf.

Still another option, of (more) interest if you wanted something custom, is PTG's 24 hour turnaround on custom reamers if you pay a premium price.

Reamer has been ordered since last of april from ptg...I just didnt know the usual lead time on a reamer. I told him i just wanted a regular 7mm-08 chamber..building a 7mm-08 on a predator action, Bartlien barrel, shilen trigger, and mcmillian swriley stock.He has all parts in hand just waiting on the reamer.I trust what my smith is telling me its just agravating because i waited to make sure i had all parts even action screws before i brought it to him..

The long waits are pretty common with ptg. There is also a good chance it will be wrong when it does show up. The only way I use ptg is through midway or brownells that way I have some customer support. Otherwise JGS is the way to go.

If you wanted "off the shelf" times (Mc Donalds style) you should have gone to Columbia and simply bought a rifle at Spotted Dog.

You didn't mention in your initial post you'd already ordered one.

The folks @ PTG usually say 6-8 weeks for a non rush job. It doesn't make any difference whatsoever its a SAAMI standard reamer, its every bit as much work to grind it as any wildcat.

I'm sure Dave would be happy to grind it tomorrow if you call them up and pay the ~$100 "rush" up charge.

Until then, try to patiently wait in the que with everybody else that ordered a non rush job.

I've rented reamers a couple of times when I needed one in a hurry. Comes in the mail in a couple of days, use it for I think 3 or 4 days and then mail it back to them in their supplied postage paid box. But I believe this is only for SAMMI spec'd reamers. It's been awhile, so I suffer from crs syndrome.

Man u added a hole lot of value to the thread with this smart ass comment.I was not bashing anyone in the least. I just had know idea it would take 3 months to get a reamer..If i wanted a gun from spotted dog i would have bought one from their thank you..

I went through your posting history and saw that you were in too much of a hurry to wait for one builder so you went to another on his recommendation. Now, after a few weeks you are on a sub forum fishing around for how long it takes to make a tool. I've been there with guys like you, dime-a-dozen. Whenismy whenismy whenismy gun going to be done? Squeekey wheel gets the oil? In our shop we have a name for it..."gunstalking." One of our sales girls had a gunstalker harass her at Wal Mart while she was shopping.

Not only that but, from a business point of view, you've taken a good deal of the "easy money" profit from the build because you provided the parts. I don't allow that at all anymore. My family needs to eat.

Also, the builder is ordering a NEW tool to complete YOUR job. A tool that is going to cost him around 140.00 with shipping.

Let's take stock. You provided the parts. So no parts profit. You wanted a caliber he didn't have. so take 140 out of the labor. And then, to top it all off, you're on a forum beginning the process of bringing pressure on the guy to build your rifle NOW, first, today.

Then, you called me a name.

I've had a PTG reamer on order since late last year. Finally, they email me a print of my reamer April 15th and am still waiting for my reamer.

I waited a little over 10 months for a Henriksen Dasher reamer. The quality is top notch. Just used it for the first time today and it cut a chamber like butter! Well worth the wait. JGS is well with the wait too!
