Reasons for getting a chassis

Just wondering what all reasons do people swap out a regular rifle stock and put in a chassis:

Some of the reasons I know/guessed are:

1) Chassis allow more user specific configurations. With a regular stock, if its too long/short/tall/low theres not much you can do.
2) The chassis allows to change your mag system
3) Chassis's look more tactical/cooler than a regular old stock


Thats all I can think off so far. Im sure Ive missed more.

Save money on bedding since you can bolt and go.

Plus easier to clean when you can just fold the butt to the sl=ide, and they fir in a smaller pelican/bag/backpack, but modularity would be my #1 reason to switch...

adds mag
adds features (rails, push button release points, folding stocks)

Maybe. Many factory stocks aren't free floated or bedded. Free floating and bedding (via bedding block) is an advantage of a chassis (and some non-chassis aftermarket stocks)

Just can't think of even one reason to need one, hate to be tacticool, don't like goobers hanging on to my gun, HS stock didn't need bedding, shoots like a house a fire and is basic black and wipes right off it it gets dirty and just love when it all works and scores are reflecting simplicity.

Buddy just got two new XLR Chassis systems for two of his higher end guns and still waiting for him to be happy with them, nice equipment but so far seems like trying to keep a high end race car tuned compared to our old basic Chevy that keeps on running.

Guess I'll never get to sit with the cool guys at lunch with the chassis guns at the matches. They are probably a great idea and serve some purpose that I've not discovered yet and am not putting them down but just that I've never found a need that they would solve for the matches I shoot.

Have to agree, HSP, and BC are bolt n go as well. I tried a bud's AIC and absolutely hated the thumbhole, and it didn't affect accuracy at all. Plus with $5-$800 extra in my pocket, and an HSP or BC, I could buy some nice glass, set up for reloading, buy lots of ammo, or even send off and true up, and rebarrel with a match tube.
But if $ was no object, and I could get what ever I wanted (and not feel guilt) I'd probably get a Manners or Mcm

I guess it depends on how much time you spend behind the gun and if it fits. Typically most stocks as they ship are generic as to dimensions. You can slap on a stock pack, stuff some cardboard under it to get the right alignment and be good. Of course that doesn't address pull length. At some point if you shoot enough, get beat enough, or get old enough you will see the need for customization. The other thing to consider is that chassis is good to go no matter if I drop in my 243, my 260, my 7wsm or 308. If I do a high end fiberglass it's good for that one gun I bedded in it. If I am going to spend on a build 450 for a barrel, 650 for a trued rem action or 800 for a custom, 300 for bottom metal and 100 for a base, plus smith fees. I can go 300 for a cheap stock or 750 for a nice one. It seems pretty logical to me. Sometimes to get that additional 1/4 to 1/2 moa it takes some bucks. But to each his own. I'm also a shooter, I like to spend my time behind the gun not on a web site. I haven't been on here as long as a lot of shooters and by no means an expert but you are pretty new and have more to learn.

I had a chassis (XLR). It was beautiful piece of equipment and worked very well. Even with all of the adjustments built in, I just was never 100% comfortable behind it. I sold it and got another Manners, it's not even an adjustable model, but it still feels more natural to me. All I can say is get behind one and see for yourself and see if its right for you.

I just picked up a used Mcree, so I'll let you know in a few weeks. Machining is great and the adjustment possibilities seem endless. And no bedding.
