Gunsmithing rebarrel and accurizing my 110ba - cost?

So I've been having accuracy issues with my 110 BA in 338 lapua. Without going into too much detail about that I will say that I never figured the stock barrel to be an optimal length nor twist, at only about 26" and a 1:9 twist.
I'm thinking something more like 28-30" and a 1:10 twist? What do you think? And how much should I expect to have it installed and the action trued? And maybe even bench tested to verify accuracy?
I figure this way I can take the gun out of the equation after its been gone through by a pro and if I'm still shooting 2 MOA with it then I will know that I at least have a gun more capable than me...

Does the 110 Ba have the barrel nut? If so you can source a barrel may places. It would simple be a large dia thread. I have had great luck with benchmark barrels in the past. I have gotten them from stockade stocks. The guy there will make you a barrel and talk your ear off. Hope that helps?

Forgot to add cost, last barrel I purchased was around 300 chambered and finished I sent the rifle to them and they installed no charge.

A less expensive way to take the gun out of the equation is have someone you know is a consistent 1moa or better shooter shoot it with match ammo.
And you need to be sure to check at 300 yards and on out. Just my 2 cents.

Savages biggest problems OTB is the headspace tollerences, crowning and the leed on the lands. Pic a round that you like and stick with it. Have the smith reset the leed. Then have him recrown and reset headspace. That should make a HUGE diff.
Oh and I'm not in AZ but I know a good smith that could help ya here in TX.

First what grain bullet are you planning on shooting? IMO if you plan on shooting the 300SMK's you will probably want the 1 in 9 twist.
As for accuracy what pellets have you currently tried? I have seen several Laupua's that dont like the 225 or 250s but love the 300's. You may give that a try first. Also as Crumpmd pointed out, you really cant judge this caliber by 100 or 200 yards, IMO 300 is really pushing it. Have you tried doing anything 300+ the reason I say is in this caliber it is common that you are going to see the same size group at 100 yards that you may see at 200 or even 300. With the 338 the bullet has to stabilize or you may have heard it reffered as "going to sleep". I know you maybe saying that doesnt make sense and I agree we have all scratched our heads on this one but the fact is if you are shooting 2MOA at 100 try it at 300 and 600. Chances are you will probably see some pretty good groups. If you dont have someone else that you know that you can test if it is you or the stick. Im not saying you dont need to replace the barrel, all I am saying is see what you have first. What are your expectations for this stick? A great match barrel from any of the top makers will most definately help but if you are shooting short range inside 300 I would say dont expect it to group like a 308 or 6.5

1+ what RTO says. May need bedding help also. Those big, long bullets nutate around the trajectory for a while before settling in. That is quite a fire you are setting off also...don't know your rifle experience, but technique may be a significant factor in final accuracy with that much cartridge. JMHO

Late last year I got some trigger time on the 110BA along with 11 other team members at Ft. Campbell. If I remember right we fired Lapua 250 and 300 Scenars starting at 600 meters and going out to 1200. Most everyone was getting 1 moa groups about 80% of the time.

Do what RTO suggests...get it out there the .338 is not a happy camper below 400 meters.

I've read quite a few similar comments to yours on the savage 110ba not being accurate. I'm looking at getting one soon so I have been researching it to death.

In nearly all cases they were shooting 250gr or lighter pills. The twist rate on the 110BA is more fitting to the 300gr. If its an option then try doing a load workup with 300's if you haven't already.

IF however your still having these issues WITH 300gr then check everything. A common issue with the 110BA's I've heard of it the rails are not tight or seated properly. That can lead to groups opening up. Then check head space and down the line of possible issues. Better to check for free then pay for a barrel that may or may not fix your issue.
