I have a Remington 700 sps 20" ( I have the hogue stock still on and with Factory ammo I shoot 3" at 500) and I am going to drop it into a B&C Medalist stock to hopefully shrink that down. Should I change out the recoil lug? What would be the purpose in changing out a recoil lug?

Re: Recoil Lug

I wouldn't bother unless you're going to true the receiver and install a new barrel. The reason for changing out the recoil lug is to have one that is ground absolutely flat and parallel. Like I said, don't bother until you're ready to do the above.

You don't just "change out" a recoil lug. It's an integral part of head spacing the barrel.

Leave it be until you have a new barrel installed.
