Recommend a good pair of pants that doesn’t skinny jean the ankles...

Ok, I wasn’t really sure where to put this and having pants that are tight around the ankles have their place, sometimes. But, just out putting around I’d like to find a good pair of pants that’s wide enough at the bottom to hang over boots and shoes, not bunch up around them. Anyone know of any? I have no idea why every pant maker follows this ankle hugging rule. I had some pants from Pakistan that were perfect, and most rain gear and the like pants are made to fit over boots so why can’t you find regular pants that do the same? Yeah I’m tired of having pants bunch up at my feet.

Carhartt pants are awesome. Go to church, workout, run, shoot, hunt, take your wife on a date, yard work, etc. pants.

They are a bit tight though if you do heavier squats in them though.

Minor complaint is that they don’t dry out super fast.

I wear the 5.11 traverse pants. They are super comfortable and stretchy. That being said, the new 2.0 version doesn’t pill like the old version but I am not as crazy abt them as the original version. I have tried the 5.11 stryke pants and like you, they are too ankle skinny for me. I take a pair of scissors and split them abt 2 inches up one side and they fit fine after that. The traverse are the best pants I have ever worn though.

I did that back in the day but they always failed, wore out fast where I cut them. I know I’m not the only person with this issue and I just don’t understand why pant manufacturers don’t just produce something wider at the ankle. Seems like it would be easy to give people what they want.

Durability requirements? Tech pants? I love my Kuhl's but they are not cheap and I tend to tear them up in the woods or around sharp objects. Durability, the Carhartts in duck last but they are stiff. I was skeptical but the Wrangler Wriggs are light weight and have held up well and double as my work pants on casual days. My bombproof pant is made by Mascot and it's the Lerida.

If your pants bunch up at your feet, buy shorter pants. Manufacturers don’t make extra wide bottom pants because that style died in the 70’s and then again in the mid-late 90’s. If true boot cut jeans are not wide enough for you, the problem most likely isn’t the pants. Do you have large feet/shoes? Most people don’t want their pants to hang over their boots and drag the ground. Especially in the heel area.

yes, I have large feet/shoes. The proper way would be to hem them, the problem with that is I don’t want to lose length. I don’t want them dragging the ground but I don’t want them up above my ankles like Steve Urkel either. Hopefully, that makes sense. I guess I can cut them and do a roll hem but that’s kind of a pain in the ass. I mean I really dont need but maybe half an inch in cases. I don’t understand why pant makers can’t build this in. Most do its with pants you wear over other pants. Running pants usually have a zipper on the side etc. if they would build it in there likely would be no need to have hemmed pants. Most people’s pants are either too short or too long. I guess I’m in between in some weird way on that as well. You can professional tailor crap but who has time for that?

Duluth firehose pants. Switched to them from Carhart. For me, they are more comfortable, wear like iron, and are available in different styles/configurations, material weights, and sizes. Not bellbottoms, but not skinny leg either.

Side benefit of wearing these is you can conceal an AR pistol in an ankle holster, or cankle holster as the case may be, on each leg. I’m not sure what the draw stroke would look like. ?

For what it’s worth, Midway has “Tac pants” they are wide enough to take boots on and off. They are comfortable and plenty of pockets, but they have specific washing instructions. They have held up well over about 18 months, but they match and woods pants.

I like Duluth Trading’s “Firehose Flex” pants for hard work days, but didn’t much like their jeans.

I wear Old Navy brand boot-cut jeans. Fit well over my Ariats. They hold up well and are designed with a similar “flex” ability. Very comfortable, and they’re frequently on sale for $19.99/each. Great value.

I’m 5’11”, 205lb, 34x34 for size reference.

Go to the damn mall and try on some pants with the boots you're worried about. They stooped making my favorite Levis a while back so I had to find something else. The american eagle boot cuts are nice, fit over my work/cowboy boots, and have a ton of stretch to them. Durability is still to be seen. I wear them at work (pest/animal control) most days, but its only been a few months. No issues yet.

Figure out your size and buy them online so no one judges you for being in american eagle.

Just gotta put 30lbs of weight back on (re-learning to eat and swallow has been a real bitch). Brain's not leaking anymore (they just dialed up the pressure on the cranial shunt this past Weds), so life is good, and recovery is progressing (finally).

Now go find some damned pants that fit!

Oh, tonight worked out (squats, kettlebells, etc.), went to church, and did an extra job all in a pair of 5.11s from Academy. They are tighter fitting but move well. Didn’t know if they’d hold up to squatting but did a great job. The tightness of the pants even gave me some reflex at the bottom of the squat, much appreciated.

I owned a pair or 3 of AE jeans at one time. You could wear holes in them thinking hard about work. Hope your experience is better.
