Ok guys, shooting 50+ rounds of 300 Win Mag out of a Win M70 with a lightweight sporter barrel and a 1/2" solid rubber recoil pad leaves something to be desired in recoil mitigation.

What grind-to-fit recoil pad would you recommend?

Limbsaver or Decelerators are nice. They arent as easy to fit without damaging the stock finish as the manufacturers may want you to think. If you are refinishing the stock its no big deal, otherwise take your time and tape off the stock to protect it when you grind/sand to match.

Limb saver makes a slip on pad that helps a lot if you dont want to go with the grind to fit route.

Thanks all. I think I'll go with the decelerator as I've read some reviews of the limbsaver that state some have had problems with them becoming sticky.

It would be nice to go with a pre-fit pad but the stock is a Boyd's laminate.

Have used both, like the Limbsaver better for recoil management. If worried about the "sticky" thing, which I've not experienced, just rub some baby powder on it.

I used to use limbsaver, bragged them up to friends . Unfortunately they breakdown after about 4-5 yrs and get sticky/gummy. Had that happen to several that had no contact with solvent or chems. Kind of a pain to fit one and then it's junk in a few years. Decelerators are every bit as soft and won't turn gummy.

Here 'tis. Got it installed last night.

I had to cut the stock to maintain a 13.5" LOP. I added the white spacer under the pad for grins. I did kiss the stock finish with the belt grinder in a couple of places but I was able to touch up the finish so that it's not noticable. Don't worry, I won't be quitting my day job in the foreseeable future...
