I'm returning the Burris XTS 2575 I recently bought because its DOA.

It seems that I'll have to invest more than $250 to get a quality piece of hardware.. go figure

The scope is simply going to be used for spotting paper holes from 100yds to 200yds. If I can reach out to 500yds I'd be really happy.

If y'all could recommend one I would appriciate the advice.

Thanks!

Pentax makes a mean 65mm spotter in your price range. I put an upgraded wide view 39x eye piece and love it. I would not suggest going much higher in magnification due to the reduced brightness. That lets me see bullet holes to 300 yards on a nice day. Would probably work for Shoot-N-C targets at 500 yards. You just need to get a nice stable tripod to take advantage of the optic clarity.

I was looking at the optics planet site and I am wondering what type of distance I could clearly see 308 holes with either the viper 20-60x80 or the 15-45x60. Straight or angled? I want to shoot out to 600-800 yards.

I am using a Leupold Green Ring Spotting Scope (angled) that is 20-60X80. On good days, no mirage, I can see bullet holes at 300 yds. on the target while scoping between mag changes during rapid prone. .223 & .308. It helps if the target isn't chewed up...beyond that I personally don't know of a scope that will pick up holes much farther. I'm sure they are out there, most likely in low earth orbit...Good luck and good shooting!

This spotting scope is interesting, but the non-removable eyepiece brings up a question: Is a camera adapter available for this model? I can't find any mention on the product page, but sure could have missed it.

Thanks
