Ok, i have read a lot of reviews on 1-4 lpvos, but not really from anyone using them in a service rifle situation. I have a few i am looking at and wanted some opinions on what might be more usable. This will be the first service rifle match i have shot, so no experience to pull from. The last time i shot an across the course match was with irons. I am hoping some guys with experience can chime in as to what would be optimal or what might be good enough. I have a few questions especially on the scopes that seem to be popular in this power range.

Starting with the Steiner P4Xi - would the brightness on the reticle be that important? Are the holdovers going to be useful in a 2/4/5/600 setting? Iis a scope i dial more important?

The trijicon credo was another one i looked at. The segmented reticle might work out ok and the low visibility on the red dot portion might not be all that important.

Lastly i was considering the burris mtac 1-4 with ballistic ar ret and the vortex viper pst 1-4. If either of these performed good in service rifle i might just go with one of them. I own an rt-6 and am pretty happy with it, same reticle.

Any tips from guys with these scopes or experience in service rifle would be appreciated.

I was pretty happy with my Vortex PST when I was using it. The reticle made it easy to center on the black and while I never did a true tracking test to see how accurate it was, it was at least repeatable.

Probably the three most common that I have seen on the line were Vortex, Nightforce, and Leupold. Pretty much everybody dials in elevation and windage, so exposed turrets are helpful. Some sort of circle in the reticle (like the Vortex has) tends to help some shooters more than just plain cross hairs. I know NF had a few reticle options that seem to work well too.

There seem to be two camps; Vortex PST "value" or the higher-priced Leupold VX-4.5 HD, Nightforce, or March Optics. The Vortex PST MOA is probably the most common scope used from what I'm seeing, and I've been using it for the last 4 years. I have seen a few guys using the HiLux XTC specific scope, which is in the Virtex price range:

I'll second what @Big_Kumar is saying. No one is using the "BDC" or holdover reticle, everyone dials wind and elevation. Almost all the scopes used are MOA since the target rings are 1MOA apart. But mils will work, figure each .1mil is ballpark 1/3MOA.

As for illumination, I haven't heard anyone mention a need or demand for it with the other scopes.

Sounds like Vortex it is then. I am sure the other scopes are good, but this isn't my go to scope, just for the games. I appreciate the input and i will assume vortex is just fine at the mid tier to do what i want it to do. Thanks fellas.
