Hi All,

I am looking to buy my first IR+Laser. Primary use will be tactical night shooting, coyote hunting etc. Am flexible with price, hence would like to buy something with good quality/reliability/performance.

Will be great, if experienced night operators can share their experiences/advice.

thanks

I have a full power peq 15. and honestly a lot of guys think they need full power… but don’t. An Atipal C. Or a DBAl d2 work just fine.

unless you plan on lassoing targets for a MG team or An Apache. It’s just not necessary on a carbine. That you are shooting <300m.

that being said if you are using it on a bolt gun as an illuminator with a pvs30 at larger distances it may be more useful to you.

Wouldn’t recommend full power IR laser if you’re going to be hunting with it, unless it has the ability to decrease the power on it, or can purchase a neutral density filter for it. In my experience it creates too much “bloom” on the animal and makes it difficult for precise aiming.
Ive been running the TNVC/Steiner TOR for over a year now and have been very happy with it, especially for the price. At low setting there is no bloom on critters.
I run a Luna EL-IR for illumination and it is very good for longer shots with my SIMRAD.

I'd rather have the power available and use a filter. Then you can just flip the filter off and have full power if you need it at distance.

You have a few options.
For "Eye safe" (is it really eye safe  ) the D2 or the MAWL both provide good illumination. D2 is big and MAWL is expensive.

The benefit of FP is the illuminators, unless you are trying to blind someone. Weather conditions can impede the usefulness of high power lasers and illuminators of course, basically the same way high beams on your car blind you in foggy conditions.
There are a lot of nice FP lasers out there. For a budget the PERST seem good. For a bit more money the PEQ15 is good and for much more money the RAIDX. There are many others out there.

An extremely misty night with some fog. I'm no expert, just offering my .02/opinion.

If you want something more entry level and most shots inside 100ish yards look at the surefire x400v. I have it on my hog/coyote rifle and it works great.

illuminator+laser. I picked up one for right at $400. Also has white light integrated with the IR.
