I received my Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 20 x 60 - 80mm spotting scope. My existing camera tripod is not sturdy enough. I want something I can use prone with my 45 degree eye piece. Should I be looking at a table top or compact type? Ball head? Any recommendations?

Off the subject of the tripod, but I noticed you went with the Legend spotting scope. Could you post up your impressions? Curious about seeing .223 hits at 300yds...

Re: recommended tripod for spotting scope?

I am very happy with the Legend. I have not used it with .223 but with .308 at 300 yards it is very easy to see shots at 60 power or even at 45 power. At the minium 20 power, you can still barely see them. So I am sure it will work very well for .223 at 300 yards with no problem. Cheaper than Dirt has it for $378.00

Thanks for the info! I was thinking of the Legend vs the Konus with the larger 100mm objective. Leaning toward the Legend right now though.

Re: recommended tripod for spotting scope?

I have a manfrotto with a ball head and a fluid head for use with my Razor spotter.

What will be your main uses for this scope. If you will be doing alot of panning the fluid head shines. If you'll mainly be setting it up at the range at a target then the ball head really works well.

I bought one of each so I could leave a head on my tripod and one on my window mount and just move the spotter between the two.
