Rifle Scopes Red Dot & Magnifier Question:

Hey Hiders,

I have on my RRA AR a C-More Red Dot sight, which has the red dot to the front side of the unit. I was thinking about getting a magnifier to accompany the C-more. All the youtube reviews I have seen show the Magnif directly behind the Red Dot (only a half inch space between). My question: would the distance between the C-more lens and the magnifier lens (maybe 4 to 5 inches away) be too much? would it compromise the sight picture negatively? Given this issue, should i even buy the magnifier?

thanks very much everyone. im thinking hard about this....

Re: Red Dot & Magnifier Question:

I've placed my reflex right in front of the 3x and far forward on the quad rail and sight picture is the same in both cases.

It just sort of looks nicer next to the magnifier but I'll choose function first.

Just for reference sake, gear in question is a KAC SR15, Aimpoint Micro on LaRue and Aimpoint 3x Twist-off.

Re: Red Dot & Magnifier Question:

I had an eotech with an aimpoint 3x magnifier. looked cool for a while but didn't make sense anymore with all the good 1-X scopes around. Sold the magnifier already and getting the vortex 1-4 instead. less crap on the rifle.
Just my opinion.
Hope this helps.

One of the advantages of a redot like an aimpoint is that there is no paralax at any distance. That means that if the red dot is on the target you are going to hit it. Try moving your eye to the edge of the field of view and shoot using an aimpoint and you will hit it. Take a look at the new 1X-?? scopes that are available. Their advantage is that you have magnification built in for shooting 200 yards or more. However, in close you have substantial paralax. In my view, if I am going to be walking a street or clearing a house, I want the aimpoint so I just look through and when the dot touches the target you squeeze. On the other hand, if I am in an area where I might be engaging a target at 200 yards I would want a scope with magnification. In between, the aimpoint with the quick detach 3X mag makes a nice setup. Even at 1X mag the other scopes are set for a fixed distance. For instance, the Vortex you mention is set for 100 yards for zero paralax. When you are clearing rooms that is not, necessarily, a good thing. You don't want to have to line the scope up when you are shooting at something 5 yards away.

Exactly what I did. Even down to the vortex. With it set on 1X I can run it with both eyes open just like an eotech.
