put 40 monarch 145gr fmj's through my new 700 sps-v the other day. just looked at the bolt and theres red dust on the end of it inside the lip and around the hole that the firing pin comes out of. its like a dark red, almost maroon, not a red-orange rust color. what is this? is it bad? do i clean it off? thanks

Re: red dust in bolt

checked the unfired rounds, theres a red line around the primer. looks like red sharpie but when i look closer, it looks like some kind of sealant. thats got to be what it is, burnt up into a powder once fired and left in my action. how do i clean out my action? gun cleaner on a bore mop?

Re: red dust in bolt

Go with Hoppes. Don't use Sweets on anything but the bore and make sure you follow it with Hoppes because of the Ammonia base or you will see corrosion(rust) on non stainless parts. Sweet should be use to remove copper only. Also Sweets is hell on bedding

Q tip will do. Don't soak the tip, just enough to remove the red sealant. If you have the receiver bedded, be careful not to get solvent on the bedding. Solvent will deteriorate the bedding.
