Redding Micrometer seating die for AR10 308/762?

When I jumped into the reloading game for my AR10; I bought the Redding Delux 3 Die set for 308.

I only (attempt to) reload precision rounds. 168gr and 175gr SMKs only. Would a Redding micrometer seating die do me any justice over the regular seating die for my AR10?

If so, do I need to buy the whole micrometer seating die or can I just buy a micrometer and whatever insert I would need and put that into my regular seating die? Please advise.

In an ar platform your cartridge length will most likely be controlled by your magazine unless you single feed so you won’t be able to fine tune around the lands.

My reloads dont fit in my Magpuls. However, My Lancer mag or whatever it is that I got with my LaRue fits my hand loads. I do in fact plan on playing with the seating depth. Granted I am very new to reloading I think I get the gist of how to proceed.

When running a 0.3gr step ladder, for example, 40.5 gr. and 41.6 gr. both shoot at 1MOA; maybe just under. I plan to run a .1gr ladder across those weights. Prove those groups werent just flukes and find the sweet spot. Once I find waht appears to be the ideal powder weight; vary the seating depth to fine tune.

That all being said, I think being able to just dial in a depth verses trial and error finding my next desired depth would be very nice. I also read the mic seaters help with runout. For me it may be worth it just for that alone; even if it does nothing for accuracy. However, time for trial and error I got. $$$ to throw away for zero gain I dont. LOL

Forster Bench Rest seater die has the same "floating guide" to reduce run-out as the Redding, minus the micrometer. Generally available for under $60 from Midway, Graf's, etc. Set it and forget about it-You may not get much benefit from +/- a couple thou seating depth on an AR10.
