Does anyone have any experience with this scope? Seems overpriced at 500 bucks but a guy at work is trying to offload a BNIB scope for 350. Worth it?

They are not really $500. SWFA has them for $399 new on E-Bay...cheaper than their web site...go figure. I just bought one from them off e-bay, serial # in the low 200's. They are nice scopes, they are serial numbered, and they are only making a 1000. They are actually made by the Leupold Custom Shop, so says the box. $350 is a fair price, your grand kids will probably thank-you when they sell it.
Thanks for the info. Do you know the length, eye relief, weight? Is the ret etched or wire? Lastly how does it track?

Yes and No. I have the M40 SSA it was originally intended for and it is a low end Leupold VXII. Just a couple of notches above the Leupold Rifleman scope, Ironically, the Rifleman is a closer scope to the original Redfield on the original M40/M700 with the 3-9x40 w/friction adjustment and is a better scope than what the Marines used in Vietnam. What is unique is the mil dot reticle on the commemorative scope, which is sort of BS since the Marines basically used a fine crosshair reticle with a tombstone range finding scale that melted in the Vietnam elements. Badger made the base and rings to go with these rifles and these are spot on.machine work.
EDIT: These commemorative scopes didn't end up on the rifle as a set because the green color was all wrong so that sort of killed the Badger base and rings as well. SWFA has been trying to unload these for some time. The serial numbers on the scopes were originally intended to match the serial number on the rifle. Gives you an idea on how many M40 SSA were built out of the custom shop.

This is the scope. And it has been discontinued by Leupold. The specs are on the page though. Your green scope is only different because it is green and has a mil dot reticle. it is not etched.

I thought it was a redfield revolution with a different paint job and reticule. Take a look at it vs. the commemorative one:
Either way it's nothing particularly special. I thought about getting one for my m1a but it's not as useful as say an SWFA 10x that goes for 300 retail.

you're right and the Revolution is traced to the the VX II. In other words, the The Revolution is a VXII knockoff and came after the VXII. At the time these scopes were manufactured Leupold was just starting off the with a new "Redfield" badged line of scopes. The Leupold custom shop anodized these green scopes and added the mil dot and badged it Redfield because Redfields were on the original M40. You have to go back to 2006 to figure out what was going on with this project at that time. Most M40 SSA owners did not like these new green scopes. They were just too modern. Most people just said if I'm going to do that I can save a couple of hundred dollars and just get a VX II.

Christ, it has been so long ago I forgot that Leupold even came out with it first and then switched to the Rediield badging.
Here is something from an archive. As you can see they were originally priced right along with a standard VXII. Then they came out with the Redfield badge, added a magnification post and apparently jacked up the price.

There is a guy on Ebay selling stocks that are 90 percent good to go.
If he raises the comb of the cheek piece and adds a safety bump he will be there.
I have three of those Leupold scopes. Two ride M40ish guns in .308 and .223. After setting zero I only use reticle holds and they have been fun as hell.
The third I may throw on a Carlos Hathcock looking M70 but Im not sure if It would be a good replacement for the Unertl cool factor.
Good scopes but not as good looking as a Tokiwartooth anodize job if you want a M40 clone.
Better shooting in my mind though with the reticle.

Hello, I'm new to this community. I recently purchased a Remington 700 SSA M40, I have the Badger Ordnance M40 Retro mount and rings. The last thing needed is the Redfield 3-9x40 USMC M40 Edition Scope. If anyone has one they are willing to sell please let me know. Thank you.
