New to the site, I am looking at getting started in Reloading Rifle, I am already set up for pistol. What gear is recommended? I know I want a single stage press, I have the sinclair catalog. I know I want Micrometer dies. What are the best powder measures? Primer Seaters (Single press)?

Re: Reloading .308/7.62 Equipment

Any of the cast iron "O" framed presses would do the job. The RCBS Rockchucker is probably the standard press in this sector, but the Lee Cast Classic is getting good reviews and is a fair bit cheaper.. Also consider buying a used press as the cast iron ones rarely wear out!

Unless you are intending doing benchrest shooting, micrometer adjustments are not really needed. Standard dies by RCBS, Lyman ect will all produce sub MOA ammo in the hands of somebody who knows what they are doing. My favorites are Redding and I'd stay away from Lee as they look like plumbers fittings, but even they work.

To seat primers, I use a standard RCBS hand primer tool. The equiv model from Lee runs a bit cheaper but has a very good reputation.

Don't forget you'll need scales and a caliper, plus some sort of tool to allow you to measure your bullets to the ogive (bullet comparator) as opposed to just the tip...

Re: Reloading .308/7.62 Equipment

Sinclair has a few kits to I guess get started, the Redding Big boss pro-pak deluxe $499 and the Rock Chucker master Reloading kits $329 I just did not want to get one of these and then find that there is a better priming tool or powder measure.

I like the sinclair priming tool, its a little slow but has a good feel. for dies (308) i use a micrometer seater , shoulder bump die and bushing neck size die as they bwork the brass a little. sinclair has a good tech support, they will set you up. the thing i dont like about the kits is there are usually items i dont use within the kit

I like my Forster press. Although you can seat primers with it, I prefer the Sinclair hand priming tool. I use a Redding beam scale and powder dispenser and an RCBS Chargemaster. I happen to use a set of dies made by P.O.Ackley for loading my .308's, but I've used everything from,C&H, Pacific, Lyman, RCBS, Lee, Redding, Forster and Wilson. All have provided their intended purpose
