Re: Reloading for 308 gas gun? military brass vs reg
This is all speculation, but it could be slightly more consistent or "harder" neck tension from the brass being harder.
Maybe.
You have them in your hands. Measure. Quantify. Weigh them and compare them. Get the fired-case water capacity. You might be surprised.
Same for the velocities. Less case capacity usually means higher speeds. My experience and QuickLOAD agree that the speed difference is small, but it's there and it's consistent. Harder "bullet pull" (which does NOT necessarily correspond with "neck tension" as sorta-measured here by how much smaller the necks are before and after seating...) also corresponds generally with slightly higher speeds.
Consistent velocity, on the other hand, as in a "low sd" on velocity variations, is often not that closely tied to accuracy. It *can* reduce vertical dispersion out there beyond 300, but there's little evidence that a velocity sd of less than 15 is any worse than one in the single digits.
Me, I've never seen much of an accuracy difference between LC, WCC, and commercial brass, in .308.
