Just a quick question. Do any of you guys have a "pet" 308 load that you use in your 5R with 175 SMKs using IMR 4895?

I've only tried 2 powders. IMR 4046 and Varget. Varget shoots much better. 300yds 4 shot group .067 inches. The 5th shot made the group 1.17 inches.

Lapua Brass
44.8 Gr Varget
CCI BR2
2.838 COAL
.0015 neck tension with Redding FL Type S dies and Competion seater
175 SMK (when I cant find 178 AMAX)

CCI BR2
2.810 COAL
.0015 neck tension with Redding FL Type S dies and Competion seater
When I do my part:
either will shoot 5 shot groups smaller than a dime @100 yards
and 5 shot groups about 3.5" @500 yards, Some a little more, Some a little less
The AMAX is much more consistant

In case you do try these loads work up to it and make sure you dont have pressure signs. These loads are hot. Also dont try this with another brass.

I dont know, I just bought a crono. I will see what it is this Friday and let you know. It does shoot good though and no pressure issues.
BTW I also had a good node at 43 but 45.1 is better.

with the 5r make sure it is above 2400 fps to get the whole thing working properly.
i found that below 2400 fps the groups get too big

2500 seems slow for the 178amax. I'm getting 2640 with 42.5 grains of Varget and that is nowhere near max.
