I've gotten my choices down to these 2 rifles, their right around the same price. I dont plan on doing much as in the way of aftermarket tweeking for a while so I'm just going to put some glass on and shoot. What would u guys recomend for best out of box accuracy?

I think this is going to be a Ford vs.Chevy type of debate. They both are very nice rifles. You are going to take a bit of a crap shoot with either rifle. You could get a great one or you could get an ok rifle. I don't think you improve your odds with either rifle. If you were to pull ten of each off the shelf and average the accuracy of each brand. I don't think you would find much of a difference, so it boils down to which one you like better.

Shot that same hsp savage for a long time (only reason I dont have it now is that I sold it getting my GAP).
Pros : I liked the trigger and it was easy to adjust within the window built into it. The stock was nice and stiff and the bedding style worked well. Mine came with a DBM that I used a SSS magazine with. Finish seemed great, never really had an issue with marring or anything like that. It has a 10 twist barrel too, and you cant forget that it is very barrel swap friendly if you buy and 308 and wind up with the 6.5 itch lol. The large heavy bolt handle was nice out of the box as well. The weight of the rifle was nice and manageable.
The rifle shot pretty well with normal box ammo (1.5 inch or so at 100). I never tried anything expensive though. When I loaded for it, it was an entirely different animal. Sub inch groupings were very common and I had quite a few that were much much better. I also used it for shooting sub sonic loads and it did well there too.
Cons: The only thing that didn't thrill me was the shape of the palm swell on the stock. It just felt really fat compared to what I am accustomed to. I have fairly small hands though, so it may not be an issue for you. I will say that I ended up more or less getting used to it however. The only other issue that I ran into was that my bolt lift was a little heavy compared to other rifles I shoot. It was not bad by any means, just different. There are pretty cheap ways of changing this as well.
Overall, I REALLY liked the rifle and would recommend it to anyone in the market for something like that.

Remington guys will say Remington. Savage guys will say Savage, and so on. It’s more about personal preference then what shoots the best. Cycle both actions and shoulder both rifles. Pick the one that feels the best to you. If your still stuck flip a coin, buy, shoot, and shoot, then shoot some more.

I have a 700P and a Savage. I traded for the 700 which was used from a guy here on the hide. If I am buying new, it will be a Savage just for the fact that every time I'm at the range I see more and more guys out there with them and not a single one of them is not performing to more than what was expected for a factory gun. I had my 308 shooting .75MOA easily. I see plenty of 700's doing this as well and mine included or I wouldn't have traded for it, but I have also seen quite a few that didn't perform quite as expected. It's obviously a flip of a coin and what you are most comfortable with but I know I would sleep better knowing I went with a Savage, especially the HS version.

you can lessen the feel of the savages lift, but your cocking the firing pin and only a lighter spring will really make that feel any different, and i wouldnt do that. i installed a lift kit that i did myself and if you search my posts, its easy.
oh, savage. but i cant say ive spent any time behind a 700. my neighbor wont even let me cycle his bolt. he says ill wear it out. so i guess either he is an ass or there are wear issues, lol

The savage does have the great point of easy barrel conversion though. Its six of one and half a dozen of the other. I just sold my savage, but I wouldnt hesitate to own another.

there is definatley a huge aftermarket for the remington.. but the savages and howas are catching up
