Rem 700 5R

I just purchased my first target rifle I picked up the Rem 700 5R 20" threaded barrel so I guess the easy part is done "the rifle" so now what? I read a post the other day that said "now learn to shoot"...I have grown up around guns all my life and thought I was a decent shot until I started trying to shoot long distance I guess it magnifies all my bad habits so how do I "learn" to shoot at the age of 37...? Can some of shed some light any suggestions will be greatly appreciated..

You could start by reading the "Getting started in LR shooting" sticky here in the Bolt action forum, and then if you have some more specific questions, I'm sure that fellow members will answer them. Congratulations, nice starter rifle. Got a scope?

Good choice on your rifle. I have the 24" 5R and regret it, but only because my barrel isn't threaded for a brake. My maximum range is 600 yards so the extra inches would not likely be missed. As far as training goes, a precision rifle course (i.e. Rifles Only in TX) would be advantageous for some hands-on learning. There are also several DVDs and books to choose from pertaining to fundamentals. Like anything else, practice makes perfect.

Where are you located? Someone on here might recommend a local club that has some good instruction.
